Orange amp ?
« on: November 18, 2017, 04:33:51 AM »
Hi,
i'm looking for my new amp (i own a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, quite good but with a few problems : loudness, 1x12 (I'd prefer 2x12), reverb just ok).

So, it's difficult to find on the web informations about the couple Orange and Rhodes.
I'm in love with those amps for guitar.
i'm listening to Stevie Wonder in 1972 in NYC on YTube, he's playing his Rhodes thru an Orange amp. A bit crunchy, but what a sound ! (even if the sound of the vid is not perfect).

The Thunderverb 50 seems to be perfect on the paper : reverb, quality, attenuator (!), eq...
Paired with a 2x12 like PPC212 should be great.
But I can't hear it...

Did you ? (or an other Orange amp)

Thx a lot !
Guillaume

Can you post a link to the actual clip where you like the sound?

A fifty five minute movie! How about making it a little easier:-)
What are the time markers for your favourite three spots?

What any high powered tube amp will give you is plenty of undistorted clean headroom.
In another thread on this site the two most popular amps people use with their Rhodes are the Fender Twin and the Roland JC120.
With that clean power available and and ability to set the level of crunch in the pre-amp that you have noted in this video you have tight control.
From there on it will be the sound of your particular Rhodes that you hear.
This sound is dependent on the era of Rhodes you own, its condition and accuracy of set-up.
What can't be seen in this video (at least the parts I've seen) is any effects that might have been applied by the player - and the effects applied making the recording.

Hi...i am a new user here. I played through a Tiny Terror and an Orange Cab once and It ROCKED. Sure it was more than I wanted to spend, but also way nicer than most of the gear I have now. I do have the Micro Terror, and that thing rocks pretty well too.

I tried a Bass Terror (on a 8x10 ampeg cab). It was quitte good, really loud without crunching. The only thing not really convincing was the eq, but probably normal with a bass amp...

At the same place there was a Vox AC30. I found it really great, with an original and warm tone!!
