Wurlitzer 206a Amp Trouble

So I purchased a 206a and just finished chopping it and modifying the speaker wiring to let me disconnect and reconnect the base.

Here's what I did. I took the red and black wire that were wired into the speaker switcher, snipped them before that switch and wired them straight to the speakers by means of a 1/4 jack installed into the case and a 1/4 cable to the speakers. I turned it on and it was working for a solid 10 seconds and then I saw a small spark around the amp to volume switch output on the PCB and the volume dropped/amp distorted.


I'm hoping someone can let me know if its just a blown cap or if I did something horrendously wrong by bypassing that switch.
