I was looking for a home practice amp for a long time, money no object. After changing 5-6 different amps including some expensive tube classics, this is what works best: a cheap guitar practice amp, Blackstar ID Core 40. Forget about expensive tube amps, they will NOT give anything useful at small volume. And, this one is STEREO so you get a really nice spacious tremolo with reverb atop warm and crunchy amp sim.

It may look suspiciously small and light but actually there is enough volume and even enough bass (!) for a large living room. Highly recommended!
