Title: Hum Shield Tips?
Post by: WurlieNewbie on March 30, 2020, 11:55:23 PM
Hey guys... The hum shield is the bane of my existence.  Setting the height on this thing is so damn finicky.  If it's set too low, then the dampers will hit it.  But if it's too high, then it vibrates against the outer case.

Anyone have any tips on how to set it properly?  Maybe I need some more vibration tape on the shield so it will stop vibrating.  Can anyone recommend any material that will do the trick (preferably something I could pick up at, say, Home Depot)?

Thanks!

If vibration between the top of the shield and the underside of the lid is you problem then half inch wide self adhesive expanded polyurethane foam tape is one solution. This is normally sold in hardware stores as a DIY method of stopping drafts around doors.

I agree. Weatherstripping tape.

How much damper tape do you already have on it?

I usually set the height of the damper bar by using two fingers inbetween the reed bar and the damper bar. If it's hitting the lid then you can raise those 2 larger lid machine screws at the front to give you a bit more height. It's about finding the right combination.
