Title: Rhodes Stage 73 case lid dimensions and plan
Post by: musomarc on January 29, 2015, 03:35:07 AM
hi all Rhodes fan. I have a Stage 73 that alas I have no lid case for. Why previous owners lose or discard these is beyond me?! :'(
Does anyone out there have a plan with the exact dimensions and plan for a Stage 73 lid as I am going to try and make one myself?
Many thanks and much appreciation if you can help.
Regards
musomarc

I've modeled cabinet tops from a 1973
(http://www.shadetreekeys.com/Models/UpperSplitSideCabinetHalfM.png) (http://www.shadetreekeys.com/32766/Models/UpperSplitSideCabinetHalf32766.skp)
and from a 1974
(http://www.shadetreekeys.com/Models/UpperStraightSideCabinetHalfM.png) (http://www.shadetreekeys.com/37683/Models/UpperStraightSideCabinetHalf37683.skp)
You can load those files into SketchUp (http://www.sketchup.com/) and take any measurement you want.

when i recovered my suitcase the case and the lid were the same size.
if this is true for stage models you could use the case as a template?
does that match the amazing drawings above?

You're welcome Marc.

You might recognize that '73 top.

OK, see now I'm worried. It's been a long time since I made those drawings and I don't remember specifically... The fact that there are holes showing in the sides of that model from 1973 suggests that I just took a copy of the lower half, added a leg box and called it good. I'm usually more diligent about things like that but who knows?

A 1979 I'm tearing apart right now has cabinet halves that are NOT mirror images. The top is shallower than the bottom. I'm not at a Windows machine right now and can't load up those drawings to double check their accuracy. The '79 I'm looking at right now has a lower half that runs from 7-1/4" at the rear to 2-1/4" at the front. The top half runs from 7" to 2".

I'll check my drawings when I can but if anyone can give me definitive depth measurements from a split-side (side angle flattens out at the front) cabinet, I would appreciate it. I guess if my drawings show two different depths, I can assume I didn't screw them up.

Here's the bottom half from that 1973.

Obviously, with the split-angle side, I couldn't have just copied the bottom but if anyone would like to check my work, let me know what you find.
