Amps, Effects & Recording Techniques / Fender Twin
August 28, 2005, 05:48:04 AM
Hey guys!
I got a problem!
I need new speakers for my fender twin but dont know which are the ones to have.I had two celestion speakers built in the twin by the pre-owner.But they sound like crap.In the internet they say the JENSEN C12N are the ones two have. But are there also other ones?maybe some of you guys have made experience with other speakers than the JENSEN and found out that those other speakers sound much better.Would be great if somebody would give me some advice.

Thanks guys,
Robert

i have those soundproblems with my fender twin amp...this low-level buzzing,i think it's normal and it's vintage so why get rid of that?and those tub-tub noises are also normal, because what happens to the rhodes-sound also happens to the buzz-noise that's why it tub-tubs when you dont play!
When you play in a band you wont hear it anyway!

Especially Andy....I will check with an electric meter. I reckon it might be that alot of the pick ups have died. Would this stop the whole piano electrics from working??
Will let you know how i get on

siz

Try this:connect the RCA-Output from the pickup-rail with the amp and then again tap the pickups with a srewdriver, when you hear jim's BANG CRACK BANG then it's clear there's something wrong with either the cable, that connects the pickup-rail with the pots, or the pots themselves. If you look at  the back of the front panel , you will see a piece of metal with the input Jack of the Rhodes that sends sound signal to the cable to the Amp.Maybe this piece of metal is bent and there is no more contact...i had exactly this problem once...i can't imagine that all the pickups in your rhodes have died, this only happens if someone intends to break the pickups, usually there's only one or two broken pickups when you buy a rhodes from somebody who didn't really care about the piano.

Maybe the wire that connects the output-jack with the pick-up rail is dead or the whole network which includes the two pots for volume and bassboost...I had the same problem, that my rhodes wouldn't send any signal...so i pulled off the cable that connects the pots with the pick-up rail. Then i would connect the output of the pickup rail(chinch-jack) with the amp and there was a signal...so i found out that there must be something wrong with either the cable or the pots...in the end it was the pots, they are easy to get new ones and to build in.when you try the direct way from pickuprail output to amp and there's still no signal then it's definitely a problem in your pickup-circuit or you just forgot switchin on your amp:-) !You should also check out if the connections of cables and stuff all over the rhodes are still all connected.

The Blues Deluxe, in my opinion, is the best choice for rhodes-sound...i think even better than with the fender twin...the fender twin has a very clear but also hard and cold sound...the blues deluxe has this beautiful warm jazz-sound i like so much...i bought a fender twin myself a year ago because everybody said, this is the amp to have...nonsense...i tried the blues deluxe(a friend of mine got one) and i realized the much better sound...i know regret buying the fender twin and hope to get the blues deluxe soon when my wallet allows it.but this is my opinion,my taste of sound...others like the twin sound more....
If i were you i would be looking forward to buying the deluxe soon!
Have fun

The only thing i know about Herbie's recording is that he used a 88 Suitcasepiano, but i think this is not really difficult to find out....i wonder how he recorded it...did he use an additional amp like the fender twin and recorded through a microphone or did he use the direct way from the chinch-jack inside the rhodes directly to the recording tools?Does anyone know?If Mr. Rubinson happens to visit this page...please say something about it,David:-)!

Don't worry! There are still enough rhodes out there waiting for the right owner...I've been searching for a rhodes for about almost a year till i got one on ebay,a friend of mine owns 4 rhodes now and paid the same for all i was paying for mine.he had luck only...but if you search everything,i know its lots of work, but its worth it, you'll get one.
