Howdy Folks,

I mistakenly bought the wrong reed for a Wurly from VV and they do not accept returns on these.  It's a new VV pre-cut reed with the solder pile on it but it is NOT tuned.  Key#8, Low E.  I will ship it to you for free, $15.  Pardon the earlier $25 asking price, that was a typo!   Let me know.  Thanks!

That video is very detailed!  Thanks to all for the tips and suggestions.  I ordered my Tweed Tolex yesterday and will keep everyone posted.  Keep the ideas coming if you have any more.  Thanks!

Thanks

I have this and though it's pretty basic, I think it's going to be the best guide I can get.  There's no measurements or anything but it will have to work.  I appreciate it!

Thanks Dave.  Yeah, I just ordered 4 yards of custom olive tweed tolex from Mojotone.   Its pricey, $33 a yard.  I thought 4 yards had some wiggle room but I'll be extra careful based on what you're saying!

Yeah, I was glad I had thought of that and I look at my primer paint job and boom, the tape was gone.   This is a harp from a 1980 Suitcase Rhodes.  I don't have the suitcase anymore so she'll be a stage conversion.  I'll post pics soon-ish.  This is taking way longer than I thought but I am loving it.

Thanks. They do actually line up both ways so I didn't want to get everything re-mounted and find out my strike-line is way off.  It was in a good place before so I should have paid more attention. Rookie mistake.  I had the 'top' marked with tape while painting but it must have fallen off. Once I remount the hammers and dampers I will figure it out.  Just curious if anyone actually knew.  It's the wide holes that I was referring to that are asymmetrical. I remember the harp being mounted using those holes.

Thanks again.

I don't have the old tolex from my 73 key Rhodes.  It was taken off and refinished with the natural wood look.     Are there any good resources out there for a good pattern/measurements?  The VV video is based on having your old tolex for templating.  Thanks!

Hey folks,

I am repainting my harp frame and the wooden pickup and tonebar rails.   The screw holes on the sides of the harp frame are asymmetrical.  Does anyone know which is the 'top' or 'back'.  I cant remember.  I need to know which side to re-mount the pickup and tone bar rails respectively.  I've attached a pic with each side labeled A and B.  Thanks.

Dave, do you have a good source for your alum shield tape?  I don't want to pay $3.20 a foot!

Thanks

Thanks. Yeah, I will just use the aluminum tape.  It's what VV is currently selling so why risk it, right?   I'll use this copper tape in the garden to repel slugs (if that even works!).  Too bad because the copper has a nice look to it.

Cheers

Well, I just got my copper tape and a co-worker hipped me to galvanic corrosion between copper and aluminum.   Is the aluminum tape the preferred way to ground the harp now?     A little annoyed at the old and outdated VV videos at the moment.  Has anyone used the copper mod and noticed any premature corrosion?  Thanks.

All good points.   I wondered about sanding and repainting.

The Eastwood Plastic Resurfacer looks like a viable option.  I was also thinking of a truck bed liner spray.  Might look great and give it texture as well.  I'm not to keen on doing the Dyno mod. I never really liked the way that looked.    Thanks for the comments!

My plastic top lid has tons of scratches and scuffs from gigging.   It's a 1980 so its the squared off version.  Anybody have tips on painting/restoring so it looks great and will last?

Thanks so much for your reply!  They were all so uniform, I figured.  I have stumbled across your site many a time during my restoration.  Great site, great photos, great stuff.  Cheers.

Hey folks.  New to the forum, love this place.  I have just started on refurbishing my 1980 Rhodes Suitcase and am really loving this forum.   One thing I recently noticed were the balance rail pins on my keybed.    They are almost all (except for 1), angled ever so slightly towards the back of the piano.   Is this normal?  Could it be from storing on its end to much?  When I was on the road a bunch, she traveled on her end quite a bit. Should I attempt to true them all up?  I worry about snapping them or damaging the mount holes.  My action seemed fine with some of the keys sticking a little upon lifting them up, but I alleviated that with some easing.   It seems fine but just wondering.  I've added a few photos.  Thoughts?
