Amps, Effects & Recording Techniques / EHX Pulsar
May 01, 2007, 10:14:47 AM
What's the word on a Electro Harmonix Pulsar tremolo pedal for a Rhodes ?
Anyone tried it ? Or is a Boss PN2 or TR2 preferable and if yes why ?

On the leg cross-braces there's a short flat piece on one side and a longer flat piece on the other side, both under an angle.
Which end of the cross-braces goes on the leg and which end under the cross-brace knob ? I've tried both ways and there still was a lot of tension needed when I screwed the knob in the bottom of the piano. Is it supposed to be like this ?
What do you do first; screw the back legs in first, hook the cross-braces onto the legs and then try to put the other end under the screw, or what ?

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / Frequency range
March 12, 2007, 03:59:26 PM
Does anyone know what the frequency range of a Stage/Suitcase 73 is ?

I'm checking out what would be a good EQ for my Rhodes. I was reading into the Presonus EQ3B, but don't know if that's a good brand.
Any ideas ?
I'm sorry as this is supposed to be in another section of the forum.

Probably asked a million times before, but what's your opinion/advice on a chorus stompbox ? I know the one to go with is the CE-1, but they are quite pricy and hard to find, so what's a good and less expensive alternative to you?
In 3 weeks I will be going to a vintage guitar show where they will sell (vintage)pedals and amps as well so what other kinds of pedals could I look for ?Maybe a not so well known one/brand ? Since I'm a lover of vintage instruments and gear, it has to be vintage !

Any advice ?

Has anyone ever tried this pedal and what was the experience with this preamp in combination with a Rhodes ?

In what way do the different stompboxes differ when you use them for Rhodes ?
I mean, would a guitar chorus be better than a bass chorus pedal, or how would they sound different ?

I was wondering, since we're all pianoplayers, what manners of exercise do you/we use to improve our skills and chops ?
I like to put on a cd and play along and imagine my name is Herbie and I have  big 70-ies hair....but after a while I snap out of it and realize my name isn't Herbie    and I sure don't play like him :(   and end up playing some tunes I know and some groove progressions......how do the rest of you play and practice on your Rhodes ?

Why should or shouldn't I get me one of these ?
I'm not really sure what it will do for my Rhodes. Has anyone got experience with one ?

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / Had a good day..
December 06, 2006, 01:46:02 PM
Have to share this with you all since nobody's listening at home
Last monday I came across an add for 6 new tines with 5 tuningsprings and the original Rhodes instructionmanual and cutting chart on the internet...price : for free !!!
Sent the guy an email immediately and i was the 1st (thank god), but in the mean time someone offered him 10 euro's (about 13$). So he offered me the tines for that same price since I was the first. Talking 'bout an offer you can't refuse !!
So, as of today I'm the proud owner of 6 brandspankingnew tines incl. 5 springs, no oxidation, no nothing...they even shine !!! Here in Europe those parts will set you back for about €80.

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / Clarify my mind
November 29, 2006, 01:18:19 PM
Sorry in advance for this question, but I can't seem to figure out what it is, so here goes: Are those BBE DI's, pre-amps or not ?
I've read just about every thread on the BBE/MKHC differences, pro's & cons and so on, but is a BBE DI stomp box technically speaking a pre-amp or not ?
Could someone, anyone, please clarify my mind on this one ?
Thanks in advance.

Parts, Service, Maintenance & Repairs / Powdercoating ?
November 07, 2006, 03:33:32 PM
I was thinking......Would it be a cool idea to get the legs, sustain pedal, latches, corners i.e every metal part outside the piano powdercoated ?
Instead of red tolex, red legs and corners and so on combined with the original black tolex !
Maybe anyone out there done that already ?

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / What's that knob ?
November 07, 2006, 03:17:07 PM
I've been watching a concert on DVD of  the Montreux Jazz festival 1976 with Billy Cobham, Alphonso Johnson, George Duke and John Scofield.
Duke is playing a stage 88 Rhodes (amongst others) and I noticed a silver knob on the namerail (between the three knobs and the Rhodes nameplate on the rail)
Has anyone got a clue what it is or what does it do ?
It's the concert where the plastic dolls, plastic shark, ladyface with army helmet and so on were strapped and tied to whatever was near (Why was that anyway?)

Great concert by the way !!

Has anyone heard of  a Rhodes AR 150 keyboard amp-combo ?
Is this any good  ? Is it tube or solid state ? What were the pruduction years ?
Came across this combo on a secondhand market on the internet....
What would be a reasonable price to pay for such an amp ?

Parts, Service, Maintenance & Repairs / '76 stage 73
October 18, 2006, 01:46:39 PM
Litlle off topic, but I saw your post  andi85. I noticed you have a '76 stage 73 as well....what week is yours and did you have it teched or customized or something like that ?
According to a highly recommended tech it takes a lot of work to get mine right and was wondering if you have had anything done on yours. And if yes what ?
Apparently those '76-ers tend to be not all that good off-factory.....

Classic & Modern Fender Rhodes Artists / Bruce's Rhodes
October 16, 2006, 09:47:59 AM
Does anyone know what kind of Rhodes Bruce Flowers uses and what ( if any) mods does he have ?
On the Master of all Trades dvd (Marcus Miller) I noticed a LED (?) blinking on and off next to the control knobs. Is this some kind of pre-amp or maybe a Harmonic Clarifier or something like that ?

I've replaced all the damper felts on my Stage 73 and put the harp back on and now a lot of the damper felts don't touch the tines anymore.....
I know they can be adjusted but if I 'd bend the dampers up towards the tines the felts will hit the tines at an angle instead of parallel with the tines..Is this the way the felts should touch the tines or do they have to dampen the tine parallel to the upperside of the felt ?

This probably has been asked before, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere in the forum, so sorry in advance.
I'm in the proces of restoring my '76 Mk1 Stage 73 and right now I want to replace the damperfelts. I got the Major Key universal damper felt replacement kit which features big white felts, smaller white felts and even smaller black felts. So now my question is : Where do I put the big whites( I think the lower notes?) and from what point on should I start to use the smaller white felts and where do I use the tiny black felts( if you'd use em at all ?) :?
The old grooved damperfelts were all white and only the lowest 24 notes had the big ones on them.

By the way : Maybe some handy advice for removing the old yellow/brown hardened glue residue that's been on there for probably 25 years or more....I took the damper leafspring sections off, cut the old felts off and put the damperpad area in a glass container with about an inch of synth thinner and left them to soak overnight, the next day you can whipe off the glue residu with some cloth without any effort !!

Has anyone got an opinion about improving the action on my '76 Stage 73 Mk1.
It now has (white)felts on the underside of the hammers. Will a keypedestal mod be better for action improving than leaving the white felts on the hammers or will a silicone job do the trick just as good ?
