Watching this series of videos you will find the answer . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd6JyUQe3tY&feature=bf_next&list=PL0B7B3E47F65E1164

You have to take out the key and open the holes a bit and carefully with a proper screw.

Hi David .
The unique sounds comes from the teardrop felts .It is an early Mark I with silver top-kind felts that produce that sound just like the classic piano has.
Also the square tone bars make the bell like sound.
I own a silver top and i am a big Bill Evans fun .

I went two times and paint it in a garage paint . Very cool result.

Congratulatios for you entrence to the silver top family !
About the hammers : I would change ( if i could afford it first ) all the hammers because i can see them they have worns already .VV does have all the 73 .This will improve the sound and you can solve the problem by replacing the ones with rubber tips by attaching the square felt tip on them with glue  ( this will need your personal ability ) .
I have the same problem with the "gold in the silver thing" and a tech told me that comes from the pianos age and have go through the color by the years so i don't know anything more about it .

100% has wooden keys !
It probably has one of the best feel and actions .
Mine is 32 week of  1980 and i am very satisfied with it.

Dear Ben ,
Who is playing the backround theme with Rhodes on the first chapter of the DVD when Harold speaks about the material that  would take from the airplanes to make a piano out if it ect. ? Very inspiring !

Thanks Ben ,
This old cabinet hasn't got a headphone jack .It must be an amp distortion problem ...I connect another speaker via  amp from the  inside jack it has  and it came out  kind of distorded again.
I will give it to a friend for further look.

Hell.
Recently i got my silver top .
Everything works ok except when i play , the sound from the cabinet comes with short of a bit "fuzzy-tail" just like you hear an overdrive on the guitar but in a very small amount .
I am sure there is not a problem with the harp output neither with the preamp because i have shawp them and test them with the other suitcase Mark II ( via outputs) and both work clear and fine .
So i have isolate the problem between the amp or the speakers .
Any idea what is going on?
Thanks

Thanks Ben !
It's nice to be in the "silver" club !
As you see hammers are almost new .They had been replaced .
The volume goes all the way up normally ,just seem to me weak and really plays normal on 8-10 but with hiisy trebles.
It needs to be "refreshed" .Probably i will give it fo VV for that.
Finding first the strike point is a matter but i am not in rush .I enjoy every adjusting step on this piano .
Silver top is the most beautiful of all Rhodes i have seen that's why and very demanding !

Thank you both .
Yes it is in a very good shape indeed but need a refresh inside .
You are right Abraham , it was expensive but the real hard task was to find one in Europe a.k.a  without "bloody" paying the taxes from U.S to Greece.
There is no such a bargain chance to get it here !

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / Silver top
March 04, 2012, 04:08:26 AM
Hi to all !
After some years of searching in Europe finally got this week my silver top from U.K
It was somehow a dream to have it 'cause i do love so much silver tops , and recording with that from 1967-70.
It needs some inner adjustments for sure but i am so happy that i got it in my hands now !
Ser. No 601 - probably a 1966 model but i will check more details in speakers etc.
Just two main questions :
The Jordan amp it seems weak from 1-4 volume and hissy when volume goes to  8-10. What should i do ?
Also i am about to tuning it and voicing it .So any advice for better results on the voicing progress?
(I know these models can drive you out of your mind !).
Any advice will be valuable.
Thanks
Loucas

Parts, Service, Maintenance & Repairs / RE-TOLEX IT..!!!
November 02, 2004, 04:01:24 PM
DEAR RHODES OWNER,

I BELIEVE THAT THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO RE-TOLEX IT WITH A NICE COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE.
RECENTLY I DID IT WITH MY MARK I 88 IN A DARK RED COLOR AND IT IS WONDERFUL !
DON'T MISS THE CHANCE 'CAUSE YOU CAN NOT DO IT EVERY DAY WITH A RHODES...

YOU MUST RE-ADJUST THE TWO HARP PIVOT LINK MOUNTING SCREWS ON THE TWO SIDES UNTIL IT FITS.
IF THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE THEN YOU CAN ADAPT IT BY YOUR HAND AND OPEN NEW SCREW HOLES.

I LASO BELIEVE THAT IF YOU ARE NOT CURRY IT OUTDOORS OFFENLY YOU CAN LEAVE IT LIKE THIS IN ORDER TO FIX THE SOUND  WHEN IT NEEDS ( DAMPERS ,TINES,TUNING etc.)
