Can't wait to see the finished product. Congrats on the find. I've been trying to find that particular model for years. But every time I find one, I never have the doe. By the way, is the guy with the single pedestal model at his shop selling it? Please let me know. Also, does it have the original preamp installed? Let me know.

The model that sold on eBay was the first gold sparkle student piano models with dual pedestal, sustain pedal/rod and preamp controls on the right side of the piano (all missing). The previous owner of the piano added quarter inch outputs on the side of the harp top to hear the piano. These are rare and hard to come by.

Congrats on purchasing this piano. I have the same piano from '64 with the same velvet color lining in the lid. But it's missing the bottom cabinet and the name rail with vol, treble & bass controls. The legs on your cabinet are original. They were featured on the pianos from '64 - '65. These pianos also featured a tube amp in the cabinet with a vibrato input. If you ever decide to part with this piano w/bottom cabinet, please let me know.

Congrats on the find. I love these models. You will find that the early 1977 models still have the Peterson amp and name rails. Every one that I've found like this was killer. You are very lucky to have this one.

PS, if you ever decide to sell it, let me know. I would be very interested in getting it from you.

Buying / Looking For A Rhodes 54 Key Harp Top
August 29, 2012, 10:28:02 PM
Hello, I am searching for a Rhodes 54 key harp top. I purchased a 54 key model years ago that had a harp top with gump on it that is not removable. If someone has a decent 54 key harp top that they are willing to sell, please let me know. Thanks in advanced and take care.

Those speaker cabinets came with those gold sparkle student pianos. The students would sit on those instead of seats. The single pedestal  model that I have came with one of those speaker cabinets. But the guy who I bought it from years ago through it away because it didn't have the amp in it and didn't think that anyone would want it. Idiot!

This preamp is for the KB-7024 student models from 1968-1969. I have a few spare ones myself in my Fender Rhodes/Rhodes parts collection.

Great interview.

Unfortunately, yes. As long as it sounds good, it shouldn't matter. Unless, your a collector like me.

The green pickups were used on the 60's silver sparkle top suitcase models, silver sparkle top/gold sparkle top piano basses, Celeste, and the 60's student pianos(gold sparkle, yellow, avocado green, & wood models). They stopped using the green pickups in late 69' on the avocado green student pianos when they switched from teardrop felt hammers to the square felt hammer tips.

Love it. Great playing as usual. A true pleasure to watch and listen to, thanks. This is also one of the albums I play everyday.

Hey man, I have 5 of them, but not sure if I will let one go yet. 2 of them are missing the 3 legs. I'll let you know if I'll get rid of one. Call me when you have time, if you still have my number or just pm me. Take care.

Now I'm really jealous.  You're very lucky.

Kenneth

I'm jealous.  Beautiful piano bass.

Kenneth

Congrats on the find.  This piano is around late 1964-1965 when Fender spared no expense on the felt lining in the piano lids.  If the black harp top on it is fiberglass like the silver sparkle fiberglass harp tops, then this is from late 1964 when they offered these pianos with black fiberglass harp tops.  Now, in the amplifier cabinet, are all four speakers on one baffle or are there 2 speakers on each baffle?

Man, Dave is a beast on the Rhodes.  His 1979 Rhodes Stage 88 is set up nice.  It has that early Fender Rhodes sound to it.  Killer sound and playing.
