Preamps, Modifications & Upgrades / Avalon hardware
August 17, 2008, 04:33:39 AM
I used the Avalon 737 preamp in the past  it's great for vocals or accoustic guitars
but I did not like it for the rhodes , after using some others studio preamp
like TL audio , Focusrite , I'm actually using a Presonus Eureka and I'm really
satisifed with it , it's working well with every electric pianos like wurli ,pianet ,clavinet , and the price is really fair , a second hand Presonus is less expensive than an Avalon U5 .
#53
it's a pleasure for me to know that you enjoy it  guys
:D
#54
Rob A : yes this is a kind of cast iron frame , about the weight It's a bit heavier than a wurli 200

coachdobbs : I don't know how many were made because there are some labelled DENON and some labelled COLUMBIA , and it seems that GIBSON did a  model for the US called the MAESTRO piano .
btw it's very rare because it's the only one I've seen , and I'm involved in pianos
for many years now

3bergen :  yes I bought it in europe , in  Switzerland
#55

will you come to France ?
I'll be pleased to meet you
#64
congrats okwestern , great conrtibution

#65
this HH piano is not electromechanical but purely electronic  like the Roland mp700 ,the ARP piano or the Kustom 88
so it was not a commercial succes , btw  it's a very rare item but if I well remember sounding like a CP30 Yamaha , so not very attractive .
#66
yes these models are quite rare , only available for the american market during the late 60's  ,see the history model page  :
http://www.fenderrhodes.com/models/student.php

there are very few in europe, perhaps 10 in France, I don't know about england.
I suppose that Bjammerz will be enthousiast to do a piano production survey list
about the differents students so that will be great if you guys from the forum will
participate to   the " quest"

#70
bjammerz , no I have not determined  ,I'm calling it celeste for the moment , I'm expecting  that you'll help me to solve this mystery
#71
this student is coming with all the original parts including teardrop hammers
I've just add a direct out from the harp , so I can choose between using it with the built in amp or plug it directly in an external amp .
#72

#74
only 5 left ,  where did he find this information ?

anybody here know how many gold basses where really made ?

and as I know the model including a chrome rail did not appear before 1965 ; right ?
#75
bjammerz , the samples are always there and loading , I try to load with safari on my mac and with firefox on a pc and it's ok

try again
#76
try : http://www.rhodeselectrics.com/
I've bought some yamaha and rhodes parts from them without any problems .
#77
sorry but my english is poor so I'm going to try to explain .sometimes my terms are not really apropriates.
"flat touch " I mean that when you look close to a key , the surface of the key is perfectly flat , this kind of keys appears with the RHODES models normally.
"round touch" the surface of a key is a bit round , I have always seen this kind of keys on FENDER RHODES models .

I hope that's clear now , please correct me if needed .
#78
I think you're right peacefrog the logo has been surely changed if you look carefuly the keyboard is a "flat touch model" and if I well remember Fender Rhodes models came with "round touch model"  .

this piano bass has been modified see the pic of te harp , you'll see that many screws on tone bars have been changed for old ones featuring on the 60's rhodes models , these tone bars don't include gromments but washers felts , changing the sustain result  , by the way this piano need to be serviced , changing all the grommets is necessary then voicing it .
#79
I've bought this one and it's actually under restauration ,
I'll post a page on my site with a lot of pics soon.
there's a mystery about this model , I hope that we'll get the answer thru the forum

#80
well I think  I've got one ,  I've recently bought a Celeste with 4 octave but it appears that the range is lower than a piano bass , I'll tell you more when I'll finish
the restauration , I'll post a complete page about it on my site soon .
#81

i bought it as you see it now , this piano is near mint , it's a first hand owned by a lady who bought it in the sixties and never came out for a gig , I'm very lucky with it no service or adjustments to do just clean it up . a real bargain

Bjammerz

incredible , amazing beauty , I'm searching for one for years now .
what about the number made , the seller talked about 3 ,
seems to be uncertain , anyone here got informations about ?
#90
hello guys
after the magnificent gold pbass from Peacefrog35  here's mine .
it's from 1966 , I did not refurbished the gold top , just clean the baby and replace the dampers , coming with the square tonebars and raymac tines of course .

http://olivier-grall.yusynth.net/instruments/Pianos/RHODES/page%20rhodes.html

scroll the page
#91
Fred , waiting for your guide , that will be useful .
otherwise have you got a site to show your fine collection ?
or perhaps you could post some pics here .
#92
thanks Fred , very nice music , I like particulary  "Yes your chordliness" .

about changing the raymac tines for new ones , I confirm that after a good adjustment the sound is ok .
#93
all the 60's models I've got don't have the stamp datation code .
look carefully to the keyboard sometime it's dated
about the felt grommets I confirm that there is only one felt for each tonebars in the hight notes ( last octave if I well remember)

the 270 is very heavy for sure , when I bought it from the us it was mentionned 180 pounds on the ups package .  :!:  not sure if that's absolutely right

I estimate that the 300 is not less than 140 pouds

Steve you seems to have some beautiful pieces ,
have you got a web site to see the babies ?

The Wurlitzer Electric Piano / see a wurlitzer 300 here
November 06, 2007, 04:51:19 AM
oops !
Steve O you're absolutely right ,
I'm wrong , after verification and taking more informations from a German guy , the 300 has been made in the early 80's , there's the same model
of ampliifer than the 206 , I was wrong because of bad  informations and regarding the date of the electronic componants , it seems that this piano has been serviced with old stock parts in the past .
So finally it seems that this model was the last one manufactured with the 270.
I've updated my web page about it .

About the 270 I'll post some pics in a next future .

Thanks Steve for your contribution
