I just tried Glass Bead, really effective, and we can now see the damage on the tine!!

Hi, I just buy my second Rhodes piano as a restoration project (My first being a nice Rhodes Mark I 88 Suitcase 1977). A pretty rought Rhodes Mark II 73 from 1981 payed not that much. There's a significant amount of rust on the tines, and the tuning springs are stuck in that rust (I see other topics, but I don't if anyone see this amount of rust?)
I would like to know if there's a good product that can eliminate the majority of the rust, I can do the rest by hand.
I don't want a perfect Rhodes, just to be in tune and this will be my experimentation Rhodes to test different setup, no recording or live playing. surprisingly, the wood parts aren't affected.
here are some picture :

Look pretty good from the outside, no cleaning done yet

Sooo rusty, this been sitting in a wet basement, maybe condensation under the plastic cover.

Tuning spring stuck in rust

Thanks for further help!

#56
Wow!
Amazing setup!

My ''lil'' mark 1 =P
(And a cousin, a Pianet T)

A ''mod'' Fender Rhodes logo, i put my name on it, just for fun
(made with Soldworks 2009)

i got the same problem with one lower key of my stage 73, the tine was to close to the pick up, and it changed the pitch during substaining. I change the pick-up position, and the sound remain equal
#59
i'm sure its not a Hohner Pianet Keyboard (T), it seem to be like a ''culumbia elepian'' or only a RMI electra Piano (pretty sure, just check the side shape, and the white label on the back, and the ''doubled feet'')

it's seem pretty simple to do with wood and tolex, but i'm asking if someone can  measure the lid, mine too is missing!

I have a friend who have one, the later version (1980), so if i have the time, i'll measure it and do a drawing!

Sorry for my poor english, i'm french

Preamps, Modifications & Upgrades / Dyno preamp copy
December 10, 2007, 08:24:31 AM
Hi! Yesterday my brother and I begin a DIY Project, the DPM900 ''ProEQ''.
We follow the Schematic on the German site and it works well!

The Next Step is a ''namePlate'' for the ''overtone'' and ''normal'' Knob!
And we'll add some effect like : Phase 90, Chorus, Tremolo

PS: Whats the best chorus for a rhodes?

Thanks

Mine is Mark 1 (Outside, round top, gray namerail), but on the ''tonebar'' it said it from 1980, and i got a friend who have one with de ''square top'', but with the gray namerail in a ''suitcase'' (without the speaker) Version (Maybe for satellite speaker), and on the tonebar it said from 1980 too!

alot of model seems to be ''transitionnal'' model..

Definitly a mark II
You'll need to cut the base of your lid, to fit in a mark II

I already posted here, no response in 2weeks!

Hi, i brought a very good shape Wurlitzer last week, and i don't know anything about servicing.

Since one or 2 days, i got a little ''buzz'' on the lower ''F'', i'm sure that is a ''ground'' issue, but i cannot see where...
ANd other thing, certain time, i got all the Right side of my keyboard making a kinf of ''bozz'' or a ''bad connection (Kind of overdrive) '' sound... i sure that is again a ground issue!

and one last thing, last week i was checking the interior, and i broke a little Ground by inadvertence.. the one behind, just in the middle of the Hammer set. Maybe this will fix my ''right side'' keyboard probleme.. but for the first bozz, i don't know what appen!

I know my english suck, i'm french, but there's not that much info on the internet!

Thanks
Tehu

I really like that sound! Like the mix with the synth!
I'M a huge fan of this ''crap''
#80
I got this tremolo and i still use it!
Pretty good for the price!

2 waveform : Sine and square!
#81
I already got this probleme in my low registrer, the tine was too near the from pick-up and the magnet on the pick up raised the pitch of the note. I just replace the tine and it works!
#82
I brought one today!
Can't wait to heard it!
#83
I dont know if they are release, i want one since the NAMM 2007!
it seem to be a very powerfull little stomp box!
Sure i'll take one!
#84
Yes, no problem with the sound!  it look worst than they really are.
Cool rhodes sound, and every pickup work!
I pay 200$CAN dollars for it, and i did'nt work under the hood exept for tuning/voicing and experiments.

But anyone see that kind of red pickup recover with white tape?
#85
Hi, last week my rhodes tech tell me that when he put, for exemple, a Roland Jupiter 8 on his rhodes, theres a buzzz like you said, thats definetly the pickup, but mine, is realy near a computer, and it does not affect the sound at all. But my tech noticed that my pick-up was ''taped'' over the red wire (around the pick up) and he said that he never see that kind of pick up. Logically, he said that maybe avoid probleme like you have, but its just speculation

I got a pictures of my pick up, is anyone ever see that kind of pick up
#86
Thanks a lot!!
i was very close to buy these keys for my rhodes!
i'll check for wooden keys, mine allways frustrated me!
#87
Hi, I would like to know if the two sets of keys (plastic and Wood) can be switch, i would like to put plastic keys on a Wooden key Rhodes?
The keys im looking for are wood color (not the black one)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Set-Of-73-Plastic-Keys-For-Fender-Rhodes-Piano-NICE_W0QQitemZ270087047066QQihZ017QQcategoryZ16220QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'll like to have better action on my wooden key rhodes, it seems that the keys take humidity and they touch (lightly) each other...

thanks in advance!

Amps, Effects & Recording Techniques / Leslie cabinet
January 15, 2007, 11:35:01 AM
I also got a Leslie 825 (the one rotor version of the 760) with his Combo Préamp 2, and its rock hard!! Slow speed give me a beautifull acoustic Chorus, and in Fast, it gave me a kind of vibrato, not so usable with the rhodes

Hi, Me too i'm using Ableton Live for VST FX, used with my Rhodes (guitar rig 2, and others) and my Hammond M3 organ (b-4fx from Native Instruments or other Leslie sim). I use a full range of effect and it sound really cool!

some exemple : www.soundclick.com/dezuets/dplingres
#94
Hi, I got many project with my Rhodes Mark 1 Stage piano 1980 (Yeah really...)
i'm not a really good Rhodes players, and i record it direct in a mixer, to my laptop and put somes effect (vst)

www.soundclick.com/dezuets/dplingres

Just check under de song name to know witch are made with a Rhodes...
many projects includes a Hammond M3 Organ(1959), plugin in Natives Instruments B-4 plugins (for the Leslie and Drive)

The first project include not a RHodes, but a Hohner Pianet T, its interresting how it sounds, but its not so loud (some work to do..) with a very ''background sounding'' Organ..

These are more like ''rap'' beats and supose to have Vocal (in french)

enjoy, stay tunes, more project to come!

You all got some awesome setup!!!

Sean P : do you got project with that nice Hammond Chord organ, i want to hear the sound of that! It's was made in the same period that my Hammond M3 Organ (1959)

I already recorded a project with the M3 (and Rhodes as well) pluged into Native Instruments B-4FX (i got my Leslie since 2 weeks, so i did'nt have the time to record it)
for people interrested : www.soundclick.com/dezuets/dplingres
M3 = Dzdpg - 4 vérité Instru (yep, i'm from Quebec (French Canadian if you like, but in Quebec, we dont like Canada too much =))
