Buying / WTB: Vintage 70’s or 80’s synthesizers
« on: February 27, 2019, 08:00:42 AM »
I’m searching for vintage analog synths, broken or working.

Here’s a quick list:

- arp 2600
- memorymoog
- Jupiter 8
- Oberheim OB8, X, Xa
- minimoog model D
- Rhodes Chroma
- arp odyssey...

If you have something to sell, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m very serious and bored of seing Craigslist’s scams.

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / How to save a bad tine?
« on: February 25, 2019, 08:14:37 AM »
Hi everybody!

I post here because I have a problem on one note of my fender rhodes.
If you listen to the sample, you’ll hear the problem.

Note that all the others notes are perfects, so 70’ish.

Changing the tine would be the last solution, all the tines and tonebars are originals from 1972, and a new one will sound different of the fender era ones.

I dismounted the tine/TB assembly and the TB seems ok, I re-tightened the tine, left the spring, clean the tine with 000 steel wool, and nothing changed.

I noticed that the tine front edge isn’t square and that the bottom is flattered, like shown in the picture.

Do you think it would be interesting to make the front edge square with a bench grinder (like I make usually on new tines to have a perfect finish) ? I read that a square edge is very important for the sound...
Do you think it can solve my problem or not ?

I’m hesitating because I don’t want to grind too much and make the tine too sharper without being able to make it flatter with the spring...

The Fender Rhodes Electric Piano / Rhodes Stage MKI Hiss
« on: January 14, 2019, 02:55:31 PM »
Hi guys !

I've got a problem with my 2 Rhodes. The 2 are 73 stage MKI, the first is a 77/78 model, the other a 71/72.
I'm a bit lost because I don't know if it really comes from the Rhodes or my gear.
When I plug a Rhodes it can be good or bad. After some minutes a bad hiss appears.
There's a sample on attachement. The first part is the good sound and the second was recorded few minutes later with the same equipment when the hiss came.
It was recorded from the rail output to an UA 6176 and in a RME UFX.
The hiss appears on my amps too, but much less noticeable than in the UA 6176 (here, the UA 6176 setting has high gain and treble boost).

Buying / WTB: 1972 Buz Watson Rhodes Stage piano

All is on the title ! The more original possible, restored or to restore.

Hello guys,

Here’s a little topic/tutorial on retr0bright for EP keys and key restoration.
There are a lot of websites, forums, YouTube videos that talk about retr0bright and its process, so here’s some links :

On the web :

On EP forum :;topicseen#msg54301

I recently bought a Wurlitzer 200A with yellowed keys (than my Rhodes keys). I decided to try the retr0bright process to keep the keys originals.

I decided to test on my old Roland MC500 that was a bit yellow first.
First try on keys, "ENTER" key's done (picture 1)
All the case done, before/after (picture 2)

All the work has been done with hair oxydant cream (12% H2O2, 40 vol), and a box covered inside with aluminum foils, and UV lights.

Next episode : the wurli keys. They are actually in the UV box for a tanning session ^^

The Wurlitzer Electric Piano / Is that original ?
« on: February 02, 2018, 04:46:32 PM »

I recently bought a 200A is decent shape (very very dusty), and I'm achieving the restoration.

3 pics below (legs and music stand are missing) :

There are few issues to fix : a note is buzzing, a reed is dead, finding legs and music stand (if someone here have it please PM me ;) ), I bought on eBay a set of screws, I'll maybe try a retr0bright on keys someday, so the biggest part is done.

But I have some questions :

1) My wurli has two stickers one each side, like in the picture below... Are they original, I can't see pictures on internet showing this stickers on wurlis... Can you give me some informations about that.
The unique thing I found is on VV website because they do reproductions :

2) As you can see on the picture below, the "black line" on the aluminum rail is missing.
Can I buy it ? What is it ? a tape ? a rubber ?

Thank you !!

Amps, Effects & Recording Techniques / Leslie 147 motor bad noise
« on: December 01, 2015, 05:07:17 PM »
Hi everybody,
I post here because I have a little problem with one of my Leslie 147 motor, and maybe someone is able to help me here.

More exactly, it’s the fast section of the motor that rattles when changing from slow to fast. This bad noise don’t appear on each slow-fast transition, but when it comes it’s for approximately 3 sec and it disappears… (listen to my audio sample in attachment, the bad noise appears at 3sec...)

I isolated the slow and fast section and tested them separately to conclude that it’s the fast section that causes the problem.

I dissembled the fast section, cleaned it and oiled it, re-assembled, tested it alone without belt, wheel and it still rattles…

Have you an idea on how to fix my problem?

Thanks, Guillaume

Hello everybody,

Is there somebody here that could help me to date my vintage Musitronics Mu-Tron III?
It's an original Mu-tron III (not 3+) from the seventies, it has the black knobs and its serial number is 08706.
