Damer rail/key bed issue...I think..
« on: January 08, 2009, 10:03:42 PM »
Ok, I recently got a Rhodes and there is a spring located on the key bed in the middle. I've looked around and I don't see any diagram or picture and I don't know where it hooks to? I'm assuming maybe it goes to the damper rail orr was this a self fix for some reason and someone put it on there? Any help in this matter would be appreciated greatly!!! I can provide pictures if need be.

I think you're talking about the spring at the very back of the piano -

If your Rhodes is an earlier model, a Mark I say around 1973 or so, there was a spring that hooked onto the silver damper rail.  This helped the rail return to rest quicker.

Ones side should hook into somewhere in the back of the piano, and the other side on the silver rail.

Hmm...I don't see where it would hook to though. One side is screwed into the key bed already, so I'm assuming the other side screws in somewhere also. I'm going to post a pic tonight. If any one could post a pic or a link to help me out in the mean time I'd appreciate it!

Thanks for trying bjammerz!

Mine was just hooked over the rail and performed the function that bjammerz describes.

Ok this picture is with the damper rail on of course.

If you take off the damper rail, underneath the rail you have whats in the next picture. So does it go between the two damper strips and then into the wood where my finger is pointing?

Is the semicircle cut out on the damper strip normal? It almost looks like someone cut it themselves?

Thanks for the help guys! I like this place already!!! :D

No wait. It goes underneath the damper rail? On the backside of the 2nd pic? Underneath?
