206a - no sound

is there a way to check/test the output from the preamp?   I'm now getting no sound when played...only white noise/static from the speaker.

Was it working before? Did it quit suddenly, or were you working on it with the power on?
It could be fuses, but it could be many other things also...
Trouble spots tend to be where connectors are

it worked great.....  then i installed the vibrato kit....   and it still worked great (as before,  but with zero vibrato),   then it got to where it would play intermittently....and would go silent for no apparent reason, and sometimes the sound would come back after depressing the sustain pedal a few times.   this made me think something had a loose connection but i can't seem to isolate anything.

now I just get a loud woof sound.  i have the speaker connections hooked up to AMP OUT - 16  and ground.

fuses all test good.

It could be a broken trace or cold solder joint(s) on the amp board.
Have you reflowed the solder connections?

ok.... it reflowed the amp and preamp and found one loose solder joint.   

currently i don't get the loud whoof noise.   just white noise through the speaker and no sound from playing the keys


what should i try next to start isolating the issue?

Do you get sound from the aux or headphone jack?

those were part of the 'student' part of my 206a.   all of that got by passed and i have the speaker hooked directly to the "16" pin on the amp board (and ground)

Check if you have signal through the aux out first. That signal is tapped before the power amp section (where you're hearing the whoofing noise). Also, does the noise get louder and softer with the volume knob?

there is no aux out on my wurly (yet).   

and for whatever reason,  the loud whoof is now gone.   just faint white noise thru the speaker.    the volume control has a minimal affect on in

is there a way to test the amp with an external source (iPod) since mine doesn't have the RCA ?

I see that this is a week old. Were you able to resolve this issue?

Check the pre-amp and how it's mounted and connected to harp and make sure it's not shorting the pickup to ground.

If you take an ohm meter, you should have no continuity between the reeds and the pickup (the flat metal piece that surrounds the tip of the reed). The way the "REED BAR" end of the pre-amp mounts, it's not terribly difficult to short it to ground.

If you did this, I think you'd get symptoms just like what you're seeing. (Especially since the sustain pedal moves things around a bit and could be connecting and disconnecting your short.)
