Hi all,

I'm looking to restore my '78 MK1 and the name rail is looking sorry for itself. Whilst it seems impossible to find an original unit and the only replacement is the VV mirror rail (bit too bling for my taste) I was looking at Metal Bluing; a chemical process that stains metal black and seals itself. This is used mostly on steel & Iron, but wanted to know what the metal on the name rail was 1st before I start to make sure it'll be effective.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The rail is aluminum.  But there are enough Rhodes pianos that get parted-out that if you live anywhere near a Rhodes tech, with a little patience, I would think you could locate an original one.

I've manufactured mirror namerails here in Germany. Unfortunately the manufacturer used the wrong material on the first batch. So now I have 10 rails here which are made from brushed stainless steel. If this is of interest for you, I could take some pictures.
