I know this borders on trainspotting behaviour but I just saw a new Australian movie called The Sapphires. Was pleased to see it featured a rhodes stage piano through out.

I was probably the only person who noticed that it was not period correct given that the movie was set in 1968 and the rhodes was a MK1 Stage not available until 1970.

Are there any other movies featuring the rhodes?

Funny you should bring this up - I'd just finished telling someone about it. I got to say my wife was VERY annoyed that I had to comment on this instead of suspending my disbelief. But I also think that the mics they were using in Vietnam were Shure Beta 58A - not made until the 1990s/2000s.
I guess they couldn't find a sparkletop to rent. And who cares about the anoraks anyway.

How funny. I noticed the Shure mics were a bit too new and shiny for something in a war zone?

In the Poseidon Adventure (1972), there's a MK1 suitcase (grey cloth) on the stage right before it capsizes.

In Caddyshack, there's a mark 1 stage 73 in Chevy Chase's condo/apartment.  I'm sure most have seen the suitcase Ray Charles uses in the music store scene of Blues Brothers.

The Ike & Tina Turner movie "What's Love Got to Do with It" there's a late MK1 Suitcase piano (black grill) in Ike's apartment mid way through the film (where's he's having a party and doing coke)

I remember there being a thread very similar to this way back, unfortunately I can't remember the name of it.

Very much off the genre we're all thinking - but here's a contemporary scene that someone brought up:

Apparently she didn't want anything to do with that DX-7 in the beginning of the scene :)

And though it's not a movie it's still commercially relevant I guess -

There's one in an episode of the kids show iCarly on Nickelodeon.  If I remember correctly it's  red and sitting on a beige amp.  Very cool.   Also spotted a tilted back black face Fender Bassman in a different episode.

I saw the one on ICarly too.  I was almost too embarrassed to comment.  My daughter watches that show alot and I was very excited to see it in the basement of some crazy girl in that episode. It was definitely custom and cool!

Yeah my kids love that show.  I have to admit it's pretty funny.  Speaking of kids shows, didn't Billy Joel play a Rhodes while doing the ABC song on Sesame Street in the 70's?

On a Mark II Eighty Eight it would appear.

This American Life on NPR has some groovy transition segments featuring a Wurlitzer and upright bass that I always enjoy catching between acts in their show.

In Columbo episode "Any Old Port in a Storm" there is a scene where a Rhodes is played the lounge of an airplane (!). Couldn't find a YT clip yet but will post if I find it.

Eminor

Had a couple of Rhodes sightings on TV this weekend:  Chapelle show (the "what type of music makes different races dance" episode) and IFC's Portlandia (episode where Fred & Carrie write a theme song for Portland).

Just saw "This Is 40" and Mark II 88 suitcase on stage in a scene, however never played.  But a nice spotting

Just watched the season 3 finale of The Orville this evening and there at the end was a 25th century Silvertop as part of the wedding band. It's a new generations Columbo moment.
