Regarding the thin wooden pieces at the back of a stage piano case. What are they called? What function do they serve? Is the damper rail supposed to be touching them or is it supposed to clear them when it rotates?

If memory serves, I believe one of (or only?) their functions is to be the ledge that the lid rests on.

Yes, they are just for the back of the harp cover to rest on. The damper rail dose not touch them, later they switched to square wood pieces in the corners of the case.
