Hi all,

First time posting here.

I'm trying to replace my passive controls on the nameplate (volume and tone).

I ordered a pre-wired assembly for the 54 from VV, mounted it, plugged it in and I get virtually no sound.  Thinking it might be an issue with the harp/pickups, I used an RCA-1/4" directly into an amp and it works with a very strong signal.  So I can only assume it's an issue with the passive controls.

I found posts here discussing the correct wiring for the controls and found this from Sean:

I'm not an expert by any means, but the assembly I received from VV looks different:

The wiring looks different and the values for the sliders aren't what I expect to see, based on the schematic.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi :-)

The 54 circuit is a little different... The Tone control acts more like on a guitar. Since all pickups in a 54 are in series, the tone slider connects the 47 nF cap more or less in parallel with the pickups coils, forming a variable resonant circuit.
