Harp wood for Rhodes

Does anybody know the type of wood used for the harp/ pickups mounting? Seems like a sort of plywood and maybe different than the wood used in the rest of the piano. Would these need a coating?

I think it is good old Baltic Birch plywood.

The Russians were making it with thinner plys than American plywood, so the imported plywood has more layers.  It was available with zero voids, so knots and holes would be filled.
