I just got a Wurlitzer 200 for free!  It's in great working condition expect the fact that the internal speakers are not working.

The power turns on and sometimes I can hear a quiet fuzz come through the speakers when I hit the keys harder then normal.

I've tried plugging in headphones into the Phones jack and that does not work either.

Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks!
Matt

How do you plan to mod your Wurly into a Rhodes? Cos, that's the only way your post could be ontopic !

congratulations, a wurly for free is an even cooler thing that one you've paid for :)

sorry that i can't help you with that question, but maybe in the yahoo! wurly group somebody can help you.
Tuning instruments makes the band sound thin!

if you can hear a fuzz of somekind when you jam on the keys then it sounds like an amp problem.  I had one that had an onboard fuse go bad and it sounded all distorted.  if you hear nothing and the thing lites up still, then its some kind of onboard amp problem, those have them built into the insides.

Check the basics: if there is a short between the pickup and the reed then you will get crackling when the wurly is struck hard. Does the aux out jack work? Otherwise just make sure all the reeds are correctly aligned in the pickups and there are no stray lumps of solder etc on the pickup.

The headphone jack does not work, but the output jack does work.  It seems to me it might be some sort of grounding issue...but then again, if it were just a grounding issue, wouldn't I get sound with a large buzz?

I will be taking it to a friend of mine to see if he has any kind of input.

Wish me luck, I'll post the results if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Matt

bjammerz - yes, that seems to be where we're at. But, I can not find any sort of break in solder points from any of the wires coming or going from either speaker.

The guy who gave it to me said it has been sitting in a closet for close to 30 years.  When he turned it on a week or so ago, he said it worked fine for about five minutes and then stopped.

Thanks axg! I should have an answer in a few days from the person who is looking at it for me.  Hopefully I will learn a little bit about the electronics so I can troubleshoot on my own.
