hi everyone-

i recently had my '74 rhodes 73 stage piano serviced, and i'm getting really excited about playing it again.  the guy who serviced it recommended that  i do some of the work on my own, which i will do soon.

the piano has the combo wood/plastic hammers in it.

my problem is  that some keys - especially those in the middle register, sound different than others - that is, the sound as if they had a chorus effect put on them.  another way to describe it is that they sound more metallic, as if you could hear the fact that the hammer is hitting the tine more than you could on other keys.

has anyone experienced this problem?  i don't think it has to do with the timbre adjustment... it might be the fact that some of the hammer tips are worn a bit, but this isn't consistent across the keys that show this problem.

any help would be much appreciated.  thanks!

It could possibly be a worn tine....They're kind of like guitar strings sometimes, in that when they get old/tarnished/worn they lose their pitch stability a little, causing the pitch to "wobble".

It could be something else too...I'm no expert, but I've had the same problem a few times and it seems to be that.
