dyno rhodes

i just got me a dyno rhodes with the "pro piano" modifications.
i'm just wondering if anyone can share any info on what this rhodes should be capable of when it works.
there appears to be three outputs. one on the front in the normal stage output place (i can get a signal from it)
and two in the back left hand corner. a 3 pin XLR and a normal jack above it.
on the right back corner is a plug for power which looks like an XLR but with little red rings around two of the pins.

the casing around the pro piano eq section looks pretty shabbily made.. bits of tin soldered together, is that wrong?
also there are two circuit boards behind the namerail. one has two knobs and a light/switch out front, the other is the same but with three knobs.

can anyone give me any info about what these effects might be?
thanks and peace.
ps, when i first opened up the rhodes i found a drumstick and a newsletter from a sports club from 1985.  and it has a card on it "Dr Rhodes" trained by Chuck Monte.

The metal covering the electronics is normal. Sounds like you have a bit more than the standard eq: maybe tremolo or chorus as well.

Hi Jim! I own a Mark I Dyno Rhodes and mine has a build in stereo chorus (two knobs with rate and depth and on/off switch with light) beside the pro piano equalizer controls and there is only one output place on the front (normal stage place). So I´m sure the first circuit board you described is a stereo chorus.
I´d love to see some pictures of your Dyno (controls on the nameboard, outputs, ...) If you want to compare your Dyno with mine, I can also send you some photos!

yeah sounds cool, it will take me a bit of time to get the photos on the net but they will come.
i've decided to resurface the case cause it smells RANK!
it was in my room the other night and now when i go near it i want to puke.

Would also love to see pics of this out of interest.

Puke inducing smell.......    not good!

Are you sure that's not the oh so sweet smell of tolex? Personally, I love the smell of tolex (in the morning)...

Andy.

Here are eight pics of my Dyno. Click on the link below!

Hay that looks in really shape!

Nice pics whats the little switch on the cheek block for?

jim

it's not mine but i think that switch decides if you run off battery or transformer power.
my dyno doesn't have this or a connection for batteries, but has very suspicious looking tape covering holes that look just the right shape for that switch. hmm.
speaking of batteries,
hey Pachlar, would it be possible for you to put up a photo of where the batteries connect to the Pro Piano EQ circuit?
no stress though. it's only my OBSESSION.
    :?    :)

Yes Jim, you are right. Because of the preamp and the stereo chorus built in the Dyno, the piano needs power. You can place two 9V batteries on the inside of the nameboard or you can use an adaptor (15V or 18V). With the switch you can decide which kind of power you want to choose. If it is placed in the middle, the Dyno is off.

Of course, I´ll try to make a good photo of the inside when I´ll open it next time and will put it up in the near future or will send it to your private email adress. I even think that´s better, because otherwile the photo is too small and you won´t be able to see it well.

Hi Jim, I´ve done two pictures of the batteries and the preamp in my Dyno and have uploaded them to my Dyno pics page. Here it is:

They are rather small and it is difficult to see the details, but if you copy the pics to your computer, you can enlarge them there!

thanks heaps pechlar that helps heaps.

ok hello i'm back after some dyno electrical fun.
so i attached two 9 volt batteries to where they were missing from my circuit (thanks pachlar) and it works but there is a high buzz which increases when i turn up the overtone. i thought it must be a ground thing? when i myself touch the harp it gets louder.
my older rhodes has a little wire going from the back of the harp output to the sustain..thing..bit of metal that pushes down on the dampers..DAMPER RAIL? which this dyno doesn't have but never appeared to have. so i'm guessing i shouldn't have to add anything on for it to work.
can anyone help me eliminate this buzz?
i must note that i i've sent the batteries straight into the 15v in bit.
the piano is out of it's case at the moment too.

Mark1Stage

Speakeasy Vintage Music has just introduced a Dyno pedal.  Basically, they replicated all the original dyno mod's EQ curves and put them in one footpedal that also boosts the Stage Rhodes' signal 500%.  AC powered, so no need to deal with a 9 volt or wall wart.  I haven't heard it yet, but if it's as good as my vibrato pedal, it will be THE way to go to get the dyno sound without ripping your Rhodes apart.
