Eighty Eight .I really enjoyed this. I like the setting the Rhodes was used in and the way les played, it seemed as though he was more concerned in creating a good support for the fine players on stage. Very often we see the rhodes in the Funk/ Fusion setting but seldom like this. Thanks man.

goldphinga: "jd73 fender rhodes solo on "Ascension"

You, sir, definitely are one of those people who have nailed both Herbie's Rhodes sound and his rhythmic approach to it. Most people just "tickle the keys" or play lame blues licks... Well done. :)

Anyway, here's Chick's Elektrik Band in the 80's, playing an amazing , record perfect version of "King c**kroach". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztCczC3FhQk Features his controversial Dyno, as well as hawaii shirts and mullets ;) But listen to for instance Chick's Rhodes comping behind Scott "Screech" Henderson's solo - I mean you could write an instructional guide book on that, that's how perfect it is rhythmically!

Regarding the Mark V / Dyno sound... I kinda like it, especially when played in a Corea kind of style! Don't get me wrong, I love the Herbie / Suitcase sound too, I mean that was my "first love" so to speak...

A little modified blues for you all.  To go along with a discussion on a Steely Dan forum about the song "Josie," I have posted a video clip of me playing along to it.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTzj8QeOz-4

Found a nice one :

Dutch band Gatecrash. The Rhodes is a Mk1 Rhodes pretty beat up by the looks of it. I like the effects used on this.

Here's a quick video for you to enjoy, if you can tolerate my singing that is.    I got a video of me playing a stanza and chorus of the great Bee Gees song "How Deep is Your Love."  I'm pretty good at the stanzas, but still need some work on singing and playing at the same time in the chorus...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUOubWQFsDI

Enjoy!  :)

And if anyone is curious, the phaser effect is done through an MXR Phase 90.  Sound is from my camera mic, the piano is played through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with the treble turned down a bit.

Liked it better when I heard it.
It has no bright dyno sound but it sounds it's been played true crappy computerspeakers. (I've got my PC true two floormonitors so that isn't the problem) And I don't think it's the recording/compression too cause the digital pianos sound quite good. He plays very nice though.

Well, maybe a pretty early Rhodes video. If I had to make a guess, I would say the piano used on the record was a RMI. I had one of those for sometime and the piano used sounds very much like it.

Danny

Didn't 'look' at the sound that much. I was fascinated by the beauty of the silverharpcover.

1979 Herbie doing Hang Up Your Hangups. You gotta wait for the Rhodes solo.

I'm kinda curious who's the second keyboard player in this video.
