"Don't buy a fender rhodes without the suitcase and ped

Today, I have spoken to a reputable dealership, regarding buying a fender rhodes on ebay. They advise not to buy one without legs, pedal and rods as they are difficult to find and could be a considerable cost above and beyond buying the piano itself.

I'm going to take their advice and wait for a more complete package to come up, but I'm just wondering what the people on this forum think, have any of you bought a rhodes without legs and pedal, and, if so, did you find the parts and get it working?

Did it need tuning? Let me know...

well, often i think it's figured into the price.  Many people want $800 for a Stage 73 lets say, with legs and pedal.  one without legs and pedal usually sells for like $400-$500US, and a pedal with rod is $150, and legs $150.  So it pretty much equals out.

an 88 key suitcase model, which I had my eye on, has now gone up to £600 ($1177)

It has no pedal, push rod or legs. That's probably a bit steep I guess.

My second question is (and it's a bit of a stupid question), for a recording studio, is the stage or suitcase model more appropriate?

it really depends on your preference for a studio.  A stage, and a suitcase, will work just the same.

Stage piano has the direct preamp input, which can easily be stereo panned in your software program to simulate suitcase tremolo.

A Suitcase can be multi mic-ed from the rear for great stereo live vibrato (from the rear to negate any player noise from pedal, or keys).  Also direct outs from the stereo poweramp suitcase can be directly input into a cpu.

The only real difference is your physical playing.  If you like to flick a switch and have a suitcase powered up, or if you gig a little more and like a stage portability are really the only concerns.  but both are great.
