Hello, I recently adopted a very nice mark 1 suitcase from my dad's school. (it was sitting in the closet rotting) What I want to do is put the rhodes thru a nice amp and lose the suitcase amp. (im not a huge solid-state fan!) Anyways, the input cable going from the piano is a strange one: its like an xlr only with 6 small prongs. Basically I want to use a 1/4" cable...so long explanation short: piano to amp....how can I acheive thise? Thanks so much!

Go from the top 1/4" jack to the amp. All the controls will not work, though, because the 6 prong plug has the active circuitry designed to interact with the suitcase amp.

The top 1/4 jack is the effects out, and contains the dry signal from the pickups. The lower 1/4 jack is the return. So, if you want to use that Suitcase amp, and play another instrument into the amp, you can plug the instrument into the bottom jack.

As a rhodes fan, I say you should sell the suitcase and buy a stage, because there are many people that will love to have a suitcase

ahh ok..dry pup signal sounds like a nice idea! Well, its not like I dont appreciate the suitcase--I love it. Its just that I think the amp needs servicing. The tone is very very fuzzy, and when the keys are played with any attack, it crackles like crazy. This piano to amp deal will i guess be temporary. Thanks for the help though!

jim

that crackle could be piano related, ie pickup distance?

Ben Bove

it depends, if it's crackling like cutting out, then it could be pickups.  but if you hold a chord and all you hear is "distortion pedal" then it's the amp.
