Keyboard Magazine recently sat down and did a great interview with fusion jazz artist--and Rhodes player--Jeff Lorber.  They did the interview in the studio where Jeff showed off all his cool toys, including his customized Rhodes he got from Herb Alpert, which you can see here.

They also put some of Lorber's solos from his most recent album, He Had A Hat, on their website.  These solos were actually lifted straight from the multi-track masters in his studio (unlike the mediocre sounding MIDI recreations they usually use on their website).  No backing instruments, just the actual solo instrument.  Three acoustic piano solos were showcased, plus the fantastic Rhodes solo on the album's title track. You can get those mp3s here.

Oh yeah, many thanks for the link to keyboard TV/Jeff Lorber- I never would have known about this otherwise- I can't wait to get this CD!

I may even go out and pay full retail today.

I was very surprised at the condition of some of his gear!

Shows he's just as human as the rest of us...

Well it's 5 days later, and I am now listening to my new "He had A Hat" CD by Jeff Lorber- I love it!

If you are in any way a fan of BS&T, you will be pleasantly surprised-BS&T horns arranged by BOBBY COLOMBY,and you can tell it's them except they tune up better than they used to (Wasn't Bobby the drummer?)

Bobby Colomby actually co-wrote the entire album with Jeff Lorber.  Fantastic album, full of all kinds of different styles.  Great arranging and production by Lorber too.

Well I dragged out my B S&T Lp with the names of all the members, and the horn players on the Jeff Lorber CD are obviously the 'new' B S&T members which I saw 2 or 3 years ago w/David Clayton Thomas. They were AWESOME. They sounded like the original band, but more in tune as I said before.

Not that anyone cares, but I went to the same High School as original BS&T guitarist Steve Katz (Sometimes In Winter..) and I actually still live in the same neighborhood he lived in.I didn't know him, he is closer to my older brother's age-they were in the school at the same time but in different classes. One of my friends lived across the street from Steve, and always told people that Steve gave him his first guitar lessons. He admitted many years later that it wasn't true,he was just a neighbor....I think he was trying to impress the girls

I told  David Clayton Thomas that I went to the same school as Steve when he signed my LP, but he didn't say anything-maybe it was the wrong thing to say!
Anyone know if they had a falling out?
