Weird tuning issue.

Just picked up a great 73 suitcase from 1979. Everything sounds incredible except for a number of lower notes, if held down will start in tune but will slide up ALMOST A 1/2 step. What the hell?

Anyone have any ideas about this?

The magnet in the pickup pulls the note out of tune, causing the pitch to fluctuate. Tends to be more noticeable in the lower registers particularly if you play hard and set the pickups close.

Try tuning the low notes with a "semi-hard" touch.
