Pickup wiring?

I recently bought a 73' suitcase and have been fixing it up. I noticed on the pickups that the wiring was cut every 4 pickups, alternating top then bottom then top etc, which I think accounts for extra unwanted distortion, can anyone tell me what the wiring should be like, and if I am to sodder all the missing wire, what type of wire I should use.

Its a serial/parallel wiring to optain a good signal output vs impedance.
