Well a 1976 suitcase is much more desirable than a student piano if you ask me.

I know we're getting offtopic here, but hey you think you've got it bad?
I'm from the Netherlands and our police are arresting cartoonists nowadays for being offensive... so I guess I'd better watch what I'm saying here... They're monitoring everything you do*

So glad I can relax at home, make some non offensive music, have no opinion and watch TV...

but that student piano IS nice!

I'd be very nervous about shipping that piano especially with the crack damage.  The fiberglass might just shatter into a million pieces in transit.

8) Yes I had a buyer's relapse.  Back to Vintage Gearaholics Anonymous haha.

Unfortunately, the hammerheads are so severely grooved.  The entire upper register hammers get hung up on the tines.  I've literally shifted the whole harp over to get another side of the hammerheads, before considering if I want to do a whole refelt job.

And of course, 3 non-raymac tine replacements

But otherwise it plays and the amp works!  It's in pretty good condition, the fiberglass damage isn't terrible but I certainly wouldn't gig with it.  I'm going out from the harp and through the bottom to a non-wimpy amp and speaker.

there were actually exactly three non tapered tines (synonymous with raymac i assume) on ebay a few weeks ago, i wonder who snagged them? I was thinking about them, but would have no use for three long untapered tines...Wish i had bookmarked it.

if you do a refelt job, you should post step by step instructions/pictures on here just in case someone has.....say.......a 66 sparkletop that needs it too!!!!!!!!

Haha.  We'll see I don't know if I want to put in the time.  I may though.

I actually bid on the 3 untapered tines.  They went for $35 or something and I lost.  I wish the auction went after I got the piano not before I would have been more inclined to bid haha.

Anyone have untapered tines ?

Shipping a student model
« Reply #16 on: July 03, 2008, 04:32:53 PM »
DHL Freight quotes $120 for Shipping this weight  the US but their weight restrictions are up to 150lbs.  Any  creative ideas how to pack and ship those fiberglass student models without damage? Any known light - containers to buy online?

the base is removable, so ship it in a different box.  as for the rhodes, there's nothing better than upholstery foam...go to the local shop and buy their scrap.  i'd remove the glass lid (i think 6 screws all the way around) and put some foam underneath, then screw the lid back on.  that way if it takes a hit, the glass doesn't crack

I might be selling it in a few months, maybe around November or so after I use it for the filming.  Where are you located?  I'd really only want to sell for pickup in Los Angeles.

November would be nearly perfect, if not a bit afterward... Would give me time to save up proper as opposed to using credit.

I live in Bakersfield, but travel to LA regularly, so it'd be pretty easy to pick it up.

Keep me updated.  And maybe shoot me an idea of what the cost may be.

Thanks duder!

Oh ok perfect!  yeah just wasn't looking to ship to Maine if you know what I mean.

Will get back to you on price, just because I'm not sure if I'm going to be restoring anything on it yet or leaving as is.

Fixing to sell one
« Reply #23 on: September 15, 2008, 01:58:14 PM »
I'm cleaning out the garage and I'm fixing up my seafoam green student model.  Couple of damper bridles need tightening but other than that, it's in great  condition.  Let me know if you want to make me an offer (for pickup only. Located in Austin) before I put it on eBay.
