Bouncy Dampers

A few of my damper springs have become bouncy and flop around.  The dampers go down plenty far and clear the tines, but some bounce around for a split second causing it to come back up and hit the tine.  The tension seems ok and I don't want to increase tension and mess up the action.  The "bounce" seems to be in the spring between where the bridle strap attaches and the damper felt.  Only some do it and it is annoying!

P.S. this could be random, but it seems that the ones that ounce have the most slack in the bridle strap...which brings me to one more question:  how do you attach the bridle strap to the back of the hammer?

Adjusting dampers is a painful and stressful process...but it's absolutely VITAL to the sound of your Rhodes!...as for bridal strap placement, here's where Rhodes got it right. On your hammer there should be a little bump halfway in. You attach your bridal strap there and you will have the perfect measurement of where to glue....every time

how about getting the bounce out of the damper springs?

I wish I had the answer to that myself. I believe if there is a hell, its probably a dark place where you have to adjust dampers all day long!!!!  :x

HAHA! I'll play an A-Men chord on my B3 to that one.

If it's not bridle straps, bouncy dampers often occur because the metal strip shafts are bent close to where they're screwed into the back.  I would look to see with your namerail off if it appears your dampers are bent up way in the back.  You can also get a better look if the harp is off, and the sustain bar rail is removed under that.
