1975 & the hybrids

The topic almost sounds like a band project .....However, I was wondering whether someone could shed some light on this one I bought last week for a reasonable price since it was advertised as a parts piano to strip. Since I already refurbished two Mark 1 s and have plenty of bits and pieces flying around I decided to reload this baby. By the way, many thanks for being a great resource for all those years now everyone involved here.

As you can see from the pics of the interior this is a model with hybrid hammers (nevermind the hammer tips, I will post these strangers for fun in a different thread), wooden harp support and a front panel/nameboard cut at a larger side angle. The pickup completion stamp is 0475 (blue) and serial # is 42443 while there is no overall completion code to be found.

I was always after a Fender Model and, despite the Rhodes sticker/logo, I thought this one is pretty close, or is it just wishful thinking ?

Any thoughts welcome.

Jense

PS. Ben could you send me your survey, I have three Stage Models to add, thanks.

congrats Jense, nice steal, that's the one in Hamburg, right ?

well, I would definetly rebuild this model to specs: grommets, dampers, hammer tips. the dampers looks someway customized aswell. is that a strip of felt underneath the damper? I thinks it was done to reduce the noise that's caused when the hammer arm hits the damper arm. I would give em a go and dont remove them.

the survey can be found here.

Hi Mark II,

yes it is the one from Hamburg and because I had a set of original legs, pedal spare and it was only missing 3 tonebars + several tines I thought it is worth a try. What came as a surprise was the age :D....and the tine-killer hammer tips  :( . The previous owner put some tape across them to reduce the damage....

Anyway, it is a lovely piece and should be back in action soon if Jens Lübke can provide some special parts. I will bring it back to its original specs and should leave those buffers underneath the dampers on. Promised.

Regards from Bremen

Sounds great - go for it!
The hammer tips look really "interesting" - maybe from a time when spares weren't available, who knows.
Tuning instruments makes the band sound thin!

ha, I was living for some years in Hamburg, but moved away this march, when I would have still been living in HH I would have tried to outbid you. I would love to let a 1975 Mark I compete with my 1980 Mark II.

how many tines do you have to exchange ?
lucky guy, having the big $$ missing parts lieing around (legs, pedal).

kind regards to HB.

it's a shame that a piano like this would be considered a parts piano.

Ben Bove

Hey!  Though labeled only "Rhodes," is identical internally to a 1974 Fender Label.  So yes, if you were looking for a "Fender" era piano, this still counts for sure.

Thanks for offering to submit for the survey stuff.  Every little bit helps!

If the namerail doesn't appear to be hacked or cut up, the wood base rails were from around 1970-1971ish, I'd have to check.  Could be from another piano is what I'm saying.

Great Vintage!  I LOVE the tips haha.

Hi all,

thanks for the replies. It is def rescued now from more looting and Jens Luebke (Taste&Technik) already checked for some parts in his magical basement so we're safe. It isn't actually missing many parts: 2 tonebars, 10 tines (thanx to the tips), hinges, latch, logos and the Tolex is not to bad prob thanks to the looting....

The namerail does not look tampered with and it has the regular 6 drillings for the extra outputs behind the name plate.

Would it be considered blasphemous to put some Fender Logos on this one - not for sales reasons just for my own sake - since I have to replace some logos anyway ?

And is there a source for the cubic tips to completely bring this back to specs ?

All the best from Bremen

Haha you can put any logo on there you want!  Have one made in your name!!! hahaha.

Yes putting a Fender logo on there wouldn't be too blasphemous.  Putting it on a plastic hammer model or a mark II would raise a couple eyebrows perhaps.

The only source for used but in good condition, original 1st generation neoprene tips, would be ebay.  seller ID digmystuff sold me a full set of 73 tips off a 1974 rhodes.  He may have more and deals exclusively in Rhodes parts if I'm not mistaken.

My opinion is...it's YOUR piano, you put whatever logos you want on it. I personally think the Fender logo is really nice as well. Go for it. As for parts, you can't beat Vintage Vibe for price AND service!

I did it with my Stage from the same early '75 fringe era, and I don't think there's anything blasphemous about it at all!  The old logo is a lot more stylish as it is....
