Im like most of us on this forum in the fact that one Rhodes just doesnt seem to be enough some days and so I stumbled upon a 1974 (3374) Stage Seventy-Three with the original legs and sustain pedal with good tolex. The guy wants $650 for it and I think Im gonna probably do it. Now I already have a 78 Stage so its not that I really NEED another one but mostly that I just want one. I just wanted to get positive reinforcement on my decision to buy it. Good deal, decent deal, average deal? Just let me know what you think.

Get it.

rationale 1: It probably wouldn't be worth less at any point in the future.

rationale 2: My expectations got recalibrated recently when a harp assembly sold on ebay for 330 bucks. At current going rates, the tines are worth better than 650 even if the piano was otherwise completely hosed. And there are probably some true believers in early 70's tine mojo that would pay a premium for the tines of known provenance. Hell the sustain pedal is good for over 150 bucks.

i usually agree with Rob A, BUT I don't like #2.......(i don't even think he's trying to say this, but..)...if there's a working living, breathing Rhodes, USE IT.....NEVER PART IT!!  There's plenty of pieces of s**t to part out, but it drives me crazy when someone parts out a perfectly good instrument/set (as in drums) because then there's one less around!  Like I said, i think he's just breaking down the values to say that the whole one for $650 is a good deal, not trying to get someone to strip & sell it.

I think that the best combo to have is 1 stage and 1 suitcase.   such a different and cool sound with the suitcase, so if you're happy with your one stage, save up a few bucks and get yourself a suitcase model instead of another stage.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting parting it out, just that values for parts are crazy high right now.

Haha, thats funny you said that. I just pretty much sold it to a guy in Oxford, Mississippi. So its kind of a wash. Its like trading my Wurli for another Rhodes and then some. And I can definatly do that. Even though I like the Wurli pretty well (and I love the action) its no Rhodes. Bottom Line. BTW whats the best way to ship a Wurli you suppose? Im sure someone on here has some experience.

go to the local upholstery shop and get some of their scrap foam (you can usually get a huge bag of it for like 5 bucks).  then just stuff the box full of it.  Even UPS can't damage it then!!!  (i'd send it DHL anyway)

Well usually it's not the cost that's the problem with a Rhodes purchase, it's if you have the money to temporarily lay out.

$650 for a complete 73 Fender is a great deal.  And I guarantee in a year if you don't thrash it, you can sell it for that or more.  Investment spent: $0

oh, come on bjammerz...the proper way to make money is to save it in a bank account like your parents told you.   that way, if you invest $650 this year, by next year you'll have..........yeah, he's right....buy the rhodes!

$650 is like....a little over €400! I'm sorry, but that's almost like a joke
