Smoothed out feel? Jazzy sound.

I'm new to the world of the Rhodes. I just bought a 73 Mark I, and am looking to acheive that jazzy, mellow, herbie/bob james type of sound. What type of effect would i need? Is that wah? It also sounds like some of the richness of the "bell tone" and some of the over drive is missing.... or toned down.

Sorry if i am misusing terminology. Again, i am new to the Rhodes.

But my dream has finally come true! I'm the proud daddy of a Mark I!!!!

Can be many things. Basically make sure you have a good amp ( I guess your 73 is a "stage", not a "suitcase") like a Fender Twin Reverb (I hear that a Roland JazzChorus is quite nice too).

Another guess is to actually setup the rhodes sound to your licking directly inside it. You can find information on this here http://www.fenderrhodes.com/service/tine-settings.html and also under "Timbre Adjustment" and "Volume Adjustment" on http://www.fenderrhodes.org/rhodes/manual/ch4.html

If nothing of this helps you get the desired sound, start looking at effects... Hope this helps.
