You guys aren't going to believe this!!! (Literally)

...so a few years ago i talked to this cat in Denver named Joe Onofrio about getting a rhodes piano. I have since got one, but back then he says to me "if i come across one, i'll call you... but it's unlikely here in town"

Fast forward to 2/17/05 1:00pm.

My phone rings and on the other end is an 89 year old man named Phil Urso. He has a Rhodes for sale.

Phil Urso played with Lester Young, Joe Newman, Count Basie, Sarah Vaughn etc in 1957 on the 2nd Birdland tour. He played in '61 at the paramount with Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. In 1964 he played every night with Frank Sinatra at The Sands in Vegas.

He has a Mark I 73 Stage for sale that has been played by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and the like.

He wanted 500, i told him i'd take it... then he called back and said a grand, or no deal.

Anyway... if you want to own a piece of HISTORY, get at me and i'll hit you off with his number.

He has pictures to back all this up.

He told me a brief story about the Birdland tour and how Sarah Vaughn and Count Basie were shooting craps on the tour bus at 3 in the a.m. while everyone else was asleep... they played using the light from the little tracks on the floor of the bus... "just enough light to see how much money they was losing" says Phil.

Incredible.

Is that the tenor saxaphone player Phil Urso? I have an Art Pepper/Chet Baker album that he played on. He was a smokin' sax player.

I'm not in the Denver area. I'm in Cincinnati but I'd be willing to arrange for professional shipment if possible.

Thanks

David
