I'm amazed, literally in the past month I've seen 3 Rhodes with the factory retrofitted Mark II tops (no gap that fit all the way to the bottom rail).

That could be the Speakeasy top you're seeing in some cases, which also leaves no gap.  Have them take the harp cover off to see if it's really the factory conversion....

Speakeasy's doesn't have any cutouts.  It's a mold based on the regular Mark II cover, with the front lip stretched to meet the top of the Mark I namerail.
