So, there is an old Wurlitzer Butterfly grand piano for sale near me for $500. It looks nice and if I remember right, they are electric somehow arent they? I was just curious if anyone has any experience w/ these. My band has moved into a studio where we keep all of our stuff (including my CP-70 and my Rhodes). I have the Hammond in my room at home but I wouldnt mind having a piano to keep around and I know these are not quite as big as a normal grand. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wurlitzer did make a butterfly grand version of the 200A electric piano, but years before that, Wurlitzer also made a butterfly grand acoustic piano.

Personally, I would love to have either, but....

I've seen the butterfly version of the 200a, and it sounded awesome(like it should) although I didn't get a close up look to really check it out. I'd say go check it out, and if it looks sounds good and looks good I'd get it. Not a bad price for that wurli sound.

I OWN a Wurlitzer butterfly grand EP. This model is extremely rare, and if the condition is decent, I highly recommend going for it. This is the same action and sound as a 200A, but the amp is more powerful, the speakers are larger (2 8") ,and it does have vibrato. The controls probably need cleaning when you get it-they are sliders and collect dirt easily. One of my controls was so dirty when I got mine, it caused an intermittent amp problem that at first I falsely assumed was much more serious.

The ONLY downside is that this model is VERY heavy and awkward to move. Take the 3 legs off when moving, and strap down the top.I do not recommend gigiing with this- they are around 200 lbs, I think.

Yes, Wurlitzer made an acoustic Butterfly grand, but the way the top opens is about the only thing in common with these.

This and the ULTRA rare model 300  (for Europe only) are the 2 rarest models other than the early 100's ,110's and 111's.

The 270 and 300 were the last 2 models made.

The guys weight estimate is too low-these are a beast to move because they weigh close to 200 lbs and their awkward shape makes them difficult to grab onto....

That is subjective. They should be the most valuable based on rarity, but they are so heavy that most people do not want them.

I paid $500 plus shipping for mine. The most I ever spent on a Wurlitzer.
