The recent thread asking about prices on the new models got me thinking- does anyone remember what the original models retail prices were when new?

Most of us bought used pianos and I was just curious. I know a Wurlitzer 200A was around $500-$600 new...

I paid (well, my mom paid) $1500.00 CAD in 1974 for a new Stage 88 and a Traynor bass amp.  I think the piano was close to $1000.00 but I can't remember exact numbers.

It sure was shiny, my mom let me put it in the livingroom!

Readjusting the price I mentioned in that thread

QuoteOn April 16, 1979, I bought a Mark 1 Suitcase 73 in Atlanta (with the silverface slider preamp):

$985.00
+ 39.40 tax
$1024.40 total

What cost $1024.40 in 1979 would cost $2,979.27 in 2009.

I just got the 1977 price list off of Ebay this morning. I'll post the figures when it arrives....

According to the Dept. of Labor Inflation Calculator the Stage 73 would cost $3397.10 today and the Suitcase 88 $5557.31. OUCH!

My parents paid ~$750 for my new Mark I Stage 73 in June 1979.  I can still remember that new tolex smell like it was yesterday.

Then the prices on the new models don't look so bad after all....Today's equivalent of a stage 73 will be less than $3397.10 if I figured correctly.
