Hi! I am new member to this list although I read it since a while.
I recently I bought a Rhodes 88 Mark II stage piano. It is from an old store in Mexico City that used to be distributor in the 70s and 80s... they had it in the original packaging (never been opened before). It stills smell like new, comes with the warranty, cable, users manual, and even a small bag with some spare parts), etc.
Very nice... it was obviously very expensive, I will say above the price in the market (if there is a price for a new original piano like this), but I am very happy... I guess is now my favorite musical instrument.

I don´t know how to attach the pics but you can check it in the link below, with serial number and original labels and warranty. What year do you think it is?
The serial number is K760214

Fantastic!! Great find! Is this one with the wooden keys? If so, you have one of the really great Mark IIs with (in my opinion) the best action ever! Congratulations!!

Hi. Thanks for the comments and the info.
I think it is the one of the latest Rhodes Mark II... so maybe plastic keys, although I am not sure... the mechanism is of wood but it doesn't feel as nice as the older MarkI I know. I am going to check in the users manual.

It cost me the equivalent in pesos to around $3100 US dlls... I tryied to convince this guy that the piano was overpriced but he really knows there is people out there paying this or more.... he told me about many bands that have been purchasing pianos from him (including Zoé, Babasonicos, Aleks Syntek and other Latin alt rock bands)(a famous female singer from Tijuana and LA, Julieta Venegas purchased 4 acording to him!)...

He had other models new in the box but didn't want to open the boxes (EK-10, a 54, etc) to "preserve the value", so I had to make my decision without a comparison test... obviously they tested it for me once I choose one.

At the moment I was a little disappointed he didn't wanted to give me any discount (I was expecting to expend around $2500), but I have been enjoying it a lot... everybody loves the  sound... and as I have learned in this site, there is lots of people that appreciate this instruments around the world... now I don't even turn on the other keyboards...!

Does this seller ever sell on Ebay?

I don't think so... they have a store in the central square of Mexico city (in a street where most of the music stores are). Even here, it was hard to find the store, if you ask, nobody knows!... but if someone is in Mexico (not soon because of the flu epidemic!), I can tell you how to find the place or give you the phone number...

about the EK10 , if it had never been used I 'm pretty sure that it's not working,

The Mark III EK-10 is a huge piece of cr*p in my opinion :) Even if it's new, it would just be a new, huge piece of cr*p.

I have one of the few that is actually working... But I plan on selling it since it just sits there... I have original brochures and everything for it too... Any takers?

HAHA, I'm just being brutally honest here ;) I guess it's worth more in the corner as the curiousity it is since I doubt anyone would pay up to get one of these...

Thanks for your input in my Rhodes.
I just confirmed that it has wood keys which means according to some of you that it has great action.

 I was connecting it directly to my mixer and felt that it needed some tube preamp so I bought a PreSonus Tube PreAmp for under $200 dlls. It really sounds great.

:?: Do you recommend something else?
a sound processor to add some vibrato?
What do you think of the PreSonus as a solution for the Rhodes? (although it sounds much better and seems like a great solution to me... is there something else that I can do to get great sound in my recordings? I just can't believe how nice it works... )
should I get a stomp box with vibrato or a sound processor? which one do you recommend?
What do you think of the dynomypiano and preamps for the Rhodes? I don't like the idea of modifying the piano... is there something equivalent but external?

I don't personally have any experience with the dyno or other aftermarket preamps, but I do know that most can be installed without making any permanent changes to the piano. Some preamps install in place of the existing controls, and others come with their own namerail and they are all  simple to install. I personally like the preamps on the suitcase pianos, and I have heard good things about the Stage Vibe from VintageVibe.com which is based off of the earlier suitcase preamps and should get you that classic Rhodes vibrato sound.
