I was thinking of buying an Electro Harmonics HOG or POG
to get some strange synthesizer-like sounds from my rhodes.
I thought i'd ask here before lugging my rhodes to the nearest guitar shop
to try them out.

has anyone ever tried one of these pedals with a rhodes?

I've been using the HOG on my guitar for some time now and loving what I can do with it.  I just bought a rhodes today, so I will try some stuff out and let you know!

A little forethought, since I'm pretty familiar with the HOG: Adding intervals would surely muddy things up quick if one wasn't really careful... If you just wanted to add some atmosphere in a tune, the freeze function could come in really handy, as well the filter feature, using it to reduce the attack (which, of course, isn't much to begin with on a Rhodes in comparison to a lot of instruments).  The filter or wah sections might be really cool.
Not sure about the octave or step bends... (That's the first thing I'm gonna try though - octave bends with the big Muff - might make for some cool synth-lead stuff..)

i'm trying to get some synth like lead tones so if the hog will do that for me i'll be happy..

Here's a couple things using the freeze mode for some cool textures.  I reread your post and it looks like your hoping for more lead ideas... I will put a second video up when I can and feature the HOG's whammy function with some drive and delay.

Here's the URL:

Eventually, you should be able to find it by title (although it hasn't worked yet):
"Rhodes Piano & EHX HOG textures"
I would think "Rhodes HOG" would find it once youtube finishes processing the video.

Enjoy!

Awesome! thanks for taking the time to do this.
I can already see that the possibilitys are endless.
really love that freeze/glissando thing, specially with the turboflange..(stepsequence)

I play in a sort of 'radioheady' band so i'm always looking for crazy sounds and/or textures.
