Reverb pedal / unit?
« on: March 04, 2010, 12:18:01 PM »
Wondering if you guys have suggestions on reverb units to patch into a suitcase?

Could be cheap/low end or really nice/high end.  Thanks!

Reverb pedal / unit?

I have a Lexicon MPX100, which is more or less the absolute bottom of the line from a company known for high end studio reverbs. It's actually a multi-fx box, stereo, with some niceties like MIDI control and digital output. It's really simplistic interface that I would call semi-programmable, but it has a (not surprisingly) nice verb program. It also has a usable delay, plus chorus, tremolo/pan and a couple other effects I don't think much of. It is 19" standard rack. I kept it patched in my FX loop for a long time.

My fave feature is the tap tempo button on the front for the delay programs. I more or less saved two setups, one of which had a quarter-note delay that I would use the tap button to set up. (You can use a foot pedal too, but I didn't.)

There are newer versions and higher-feature version of this box around, and any of them should be nice units. I see them for around 70-120 bucks used.

And mine is going unused since I am running all effects in software now, so make me an offer if it sounds good to ya. I can demo it up if needed.

Added:

the above track was recorded through this box. Drum reverb is *not* the lexicon though.

here's a snippet of Rhodes soloed without the "benefit" of MP3 compression:

Noise is from my preamp, not the fx box.

If you're looking for a pedal, I've had good luck with a T-Rex roommate and the Neunaber Wet.  The wet is very affordable and very flexible and sounds great.  The T-Rex might be a little more vintage-sounding and has a nice tubey feel, but it is more expensive.

Hi,
Has anyone tried the ehx cathedral?

I tried it.  It has a lot of options, but I found it a little digital sounding - a slightly phaseyness to the sound.  Some people swear by them though ... that's just my experience.  The roommate and WET I found to produce a much richer and more realistic reverb, but if you want a more crazy out there kind of effect the cathedral might be better for you.
