weird D key harmonic ping?

Hi, I have this D key (actually, two I think) that gives of this weird ping noise when hit. I don't know what causes this, does anyone know? Is it a natural harmonic, or is there something wrong with the tonebar or tine?

It may be the pickup is too close, or if it's a treble note, you may want to try a clip. Are the grommets ok?

It is a treble note, and it doesn't have a clip on it. I think the grommets are quite worn, what are the symptoms of crappy grommets? and Ive been trying to adjust it differently for quite sometime, so that hasn't helped. It can only be something wrong with the way the tine is set up.

EDIT: Never mind, its not one if the treble keys, so it cant get a clip. Its an octave away from the treble section though.

Is the tone bar touching the one next to it?
Look carefully near the mounting screws.

Bad grommets are hard and crusty, and in some cases even crumbling. New grommets are soft and pliable. Have you tried backing off the pickup a little? Also check the bolt that holds the tine to the tone bar. Sometimes taking it out, cleaning around the mounting holes,then reinstalling can solve weird noise problems. Retuning that note may help also even if it's in tune now. Sometimes moving the springs around can alter strange sounds.

Remember, when troubleshooting, always try simple things first.sometimes the craziest solutions are really simple things that don't even seem logical to try.

I've seen people replace expensive parts for problems that just required cleaning or adjusting..

you're not missing hammer tips on those keys are you?

also, a clip CAN be put on all the tonebars, just go sideways.

No I'm not, their all there.

The D key an octave lower is doing the same thing. I'm convinced there's something about that harmonic note that creates this resonance. Thanks for your help, sorry I forgot about this post. It dates way back before the site got shut down.
