Hi all,

I have eight Wurlitzer 106p electric pianos (the student model, broken apart from the other student models).. I know its possible to add a preamp and volume/tone knobs to this so that it can be used live, but I'm not sure where to start, or what would be the most cost-effective method.

I was wondering if anyone out there has converted a Wurlitzer 106P electric piano to 200a. I would like to convert two for myself, as well as convert the other six and resell them to recoup my costs, if possible.

If anyone has any recommendations, I would love to hear them.

It looks like Fred DiLeone has done the same thing, so if anyone can put me in contact with him, i would greatly appreciate it. I want it to look like Fred's at the end of it all:

Here's a picture of the set I bought, minus one of the pianos:

Thanks,
Mitch

You mean a short scale version of a 200, correct?

The 106 only has 44 keys.

You would be better off joining the yahoo users group for Wurlitzers and see if anyone there knows what to do. I consider myself to be almost an expert on Wurlitzers,(except for the electronics)  but I have never even seen a 106 in person. I've owned about 20  206's, but no 106's.

If you want to sell me ONE as is, PM me.

Highly interested in buying one of them too!
Please email me!!!

Actually, do you mind if I private message you my email address? (only reason why I want to do such, is to keep my name private)

I'm going to dig around and ask some friends about the conversion for you.

I've never heard of or seen a 106. It looks very cute.

I have three Wurlis: A 145 tube, 206A, and 146B.

The picture of the Wurly 106 with three knobs that Michael posted was done by Ken Rich at Ken Rich Sound Services in Los Angeles.  As far as I know it now belongs to Page McConnell in Phish.

I designed and produce both the new 200 series amp board and the variable speed vibrato upgrade (the 3rd knob) that Ken now puts in almost all his Wurlitzers.

You can read about the Warneck Research EP200 amp replacement in the 'New Gear' section of this month's Keyboard Magazine.

Yeah, I'd love to have one too as is.  I can worry about  the conversion later.  I've been on the lookout for one of these for years!

Interesting Stuff Tim...

I'll have to run down to the corner store and pick up a copy of Keyboard Magazine.  (will have to get that "dialed in vibrato boost" when I get finally find a wurli in good shape.)

Yep, That's Page's (huge fan of his) Very inspired by his playing!

Indeed these are rare-
I have only seen maybe 20 in my life. We currently have about  7 left. Which we will  be selling only a few more in the future. We just restored and sold two of the 7 we have.
The modifications that we do to these pianos are extensive. We completely tear them down to parts, make our modifications and then rebuild piece by piece. Fred and Adam here at our shop are Masters on Wurlitzers and Rhodes  pianos of the highest order with articulate instincts for refining problems and inherent issues found in design flaws and factory mis-steps.

We have a Couple of New Wurlitzer amplifiers coming out, that are state of the art and that will revolutionize old Wurlitzer electric pianos. Look for these boards in the near future.
