Dyno My Piano Case Lid Modification

So after a while of pondering I took the step and had the lid ban sawed. Now the plywood section of the lid of course can't support a synth or clav by itself so I need to purchase an L aluminium rail.

However what does the rail attach to? Is it direct to the plywood?

This is the way I assume it to be, can someone clarify

?

If anyone could show me the inside of their dyno lid or shed some light that would be great.

Cheers

Looks like your drawing would work. Not having seen one I would think the additional
hinges would be through bolted through the plywood and aluminum angle bar. Looks like
the pic shows additional fasteners at the ends also. Wouldn't use rivets as they can
loosen with time and taking them out is a pain if you ever need to.

Actually yes, they were originally riveted.  You can see in the stock pic where it's riveted on the ends, and also the hinges instead of being screwed in like the ones in the back, mine are riveted to the case.  So those extra rivets on the hinges probably gives some extra stability and attachment in the middle.

However, my L bracket has separated at the ends, as the design isn't the best.  I always thought because you dont' need the rounded harp cover under the lid, you could always make some kind of support rods or shelf that would go over the entire front inside, and sit on the back of the namerail.  and you could have a vanity L bracket that was longer and would cover the space where you do see the rounded harp cover.

Thanks guys,

I'll give it some more thought then, I'm stuck for space at the moment (3+ Rhodes & counting) so I'd prefer to keep the plastic top in place but we'll see how it's goes! I am very keen on making a dyno replica (for the time being purely aesthetics rather than electronics) So I've started with the lid, I'm going to try and get the bronco blue tolex, then anodize the name rail. Then I'll start looking at sourcing the components for a dyno preamp clone.

Bjammerz, I remember you had the percussion pedal mod, do you have pictures of your Rhodes about?

Thanks guys for the photos, is it possible to have a picture of the underside of the lid?

The L angle bar would be great for preventing the plywood from flexing at the front of the lid but how about behind that in the middle how does that stay study?

Cheers

Tim

The White Signaturemodel doesn't need any restorations at all I think but I'm still working on the Suitcase 88 Stereo MIDI...

It looks like that inside lid picture... more secure but appears to have rubbed that guy's lid a bit and damaged it...

I'm looking for my photos but I don't think I have one of underside lid.  And the piano is in storage right now under a sea of pianos >.<

Yeah the album... they're in here but no close up of lid sorry.  http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y69/bjammerz/RhodesRareModels/
