When replacing the grommets, I noticed that the wood on my harp has a sticky substance on it and I'm not sure what to use to clean in off without damaging the finish in any way or wiping away the stamp. I'm thinking of trying Pledge, Murphy's, or a furniture polish of some type. I was also considering Goo Gone or Windex if they don't do the trick. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check if the sticky is water soluble--if so then use water or possibly water with a little soap or detergent added.

If it's oil-soluble, I'd prefer mineral spirits (which is the effective part of the goo gone).

Rhodes put a little wax on the tonebar screws, presumably to ease the intital installation. (At least on the ones I've worked on.) It  can leave bits of wax all over when you remove the screws to replace the grommets.  That may be what's on your harp.

That explains all the gunk that was in my springs!.. grit, wax, time and who knows what else.. had to scrub the springs clean when I was doing the grommet refit.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the wax. This is something else that appears to have been spilled. I'll try Rob's suggestion. Thanks, guys!
