As a part of a dispute, paypal orders a buyer to destroy a violin.

I'd hate this to happen with a piano!

Pretty unbelievable. The story seems to be gaining popularity so I have no doubt there will be an Official Apology and all will be well again.

I hadn't even heard about this other recent PayPal fiasco until I started reading about the violin.

Anyone ever try to use Dwolla for eBay sales?

I read about that violin. The picture of it broken into pieces just really saddens me.  Why would anybody do that? Especially the buyer?

I don't care for Paypal or ebay, but really, there's little alternative. Craigslist is great, but there's just some things you can't really sell on there (like records or such)
If there was some alternative that was really strong, as strong as ebay once was, I'd use it. Anything's better than paying a 12% or 13% on the total selling amount and then not being able to leave negative feedback on poor buyers.

I recently sold a (well described) mixer on ebay, As is for parts, the guy told me on ebay he was buying it for parts. I spent $200 shipping it, and the guy said it was broken (duh!) and actually picked through it and sent it back. eBay than charged me a $50 selling fee. I called them, including getting on the phone with the assistant to the CEO, and they have this almost evil passive agressiveness "I understand, but there's nothing I can do".

I still buy parts I need from ebay sometimes, but will NEVER sell on it again

I guess I have been very lucky so far with both paypal and ebay. I have had all ( very few) problems resolved quickly, except one time I sold a $35 book on half.com, and the buyer lied and said he never got it even though I had delivery confirmation saying otherwise. My mistake was that I misplaced the delivery confirmation slip and the liar got his money back. fast forward many, many months, and I found the slip. I then contacted half.com with the proof, and they actually gave me a credit for the same amount.  I was shocked.

I will be more careful with musical gear from now on after reading these horror stories....

I have also, on two occasions, including one time in which Steveo painstakingly removed Wurli keytops from their keys to provide me with parts I needed.  I'm quite certain the time he spent doing this was far out of proportion to what he charged me for the keytops.

Also, he was kind enough to do so, even after I admitted than I really don't share his passion for the Beach Boys.  He's never held that against me...    ;-)

Sorry about that Alan, but much of the Beach Boys music from 1966-1973 is overlooked/ underappreciated.  Plus, I have met 2 original members and many of their backing musicians. I cant say that about my other favorite groups, such as The Beatles and The Who....

I did get to tune for and meet Ray Manzarek, though....

That was awesome.

I've met Ray twice. Last year at a tiny little concert he did with Roy Rogers. I got to go up on stage. It was pretty awesome.

And the second time was the morning after at the hotel (since it was in the next state over) eating waffles. Talked about his solo work. Neat stuff.

Pretty cool guy.

And was one of the two Brian Wilson, Steveo? And I don't know if I'd call Pet Sounds overlooked.

pianotuner steveo

Yes, Brian and Al, and Jeff F., and most of Brian's band.

Met Brian, Jeff and Probyn twice. (two different shows)

I mean the stuff from after Pet Sounds through Holland. Smile is finally getting recognized though.

I am hoping the reunion tour comes locally this summer, I plan on bringing my one daughter backstage for a meet and greet.

I'd like to go see them if they come by too, but I doubt I'll find somebody to go with. That's pretty cool getting to go backstage, do you tune for them or something?

What I'd really like is the Rolling Stones to do a 50th ann. Tour though.

pianotuner steveo

No, the local venue has meet and greets if you pay more, and I am sure that this will be the venue they come to if they are in this area. It is where I met Al, and the first time I met Brian.

Btw, i have not one, but two bricks on their memorial in Hawthorne....
