To Restore external metal parts of a Stage ?

Hi There, All my wishes for this new year.

I ordered some new corners and the other external parts. I will replace my old ones cause they are a bit rusty and corroded.

Question : is it possible to recover my old ones to a shiny bright ? And if possible, what is the best way to do it ? What is the metal they are made of ?

Thanks for your help,

AFeastOfFriends

I'm not 100% sure all the parts are this way, but the metal's shiny finish is thin, and I remember reading somewhere that it was painted on. I have two corners where it's flaking, and a handle end on my Twin has a spot where it's been scraped off and underneath is unfinished metal. I think it's also bubbling somewhere on another corner.

Metal polish could maybe work, but I doubt it. Although, I'd be interested in the results of a test.

I've tried polishing, and it was difficult and ineffective. For less than $30, I was able to replace all the corners, handles and glides from Mojotone.  A far better decision.

Hi,

Interesting site, do they sell exactly the same models as the original parts ?

Alan Lenhoff

They are not exact replacements, but are extremely close. The same is true for the parts sold by the vintage keys sites, at much higher prices.

The thread that alenhoff linked to has all the good details.  I replaced all my corners and feet but I ended up polishing the hinges because no one seems to have a replacement with the same triangular shape that the later MK1's have.  I had good luck with polishing those pieces.  I used a drill-mount polishing tool with Mothers Aluminum polish.

They are chromed. On my old rhodes I removed all the rust and got to the metal using a wire brush on the end of a drill. I then sprayed on a clear coat. Came out really good and nice and easy
