Hi!

I'm trying to use a donlop crybaby with my Rhodes 73 Mark I, but it doesn't seem to work well. How schould I connect the crybaby for best results? Do I need to preamplify the Rhodes output signal before sending it to the crybaby?

Thanks and greetz

Hey Mat,

do you have a suitcase or stage model?

If you are using a suitcase, make sure to use the "effects loop".  On the front panel of your rhodes there are two quarter inch jacks inputs.  The top jack should connect to your input on the pedal.  The out put on the pedal should then connect to the bottom jack.

If you are using a stage model and are getting a low signal, you could try using a reamp to boost the signal, although I have always found the out put to be suficient.

Just in case, make sure you have a fresh battery in your crybaby.

Good Luck

Thanks V&CK !!!
Now it works with a little preamp.

Hi :-)
The classic Crybaby doesn't work propperly on the Suitcase effects loop, because of the input impedance of the accessory return. The pedal assumes to drive an high impedance (470kOhm -1Meg) input like guitar amp or the like. The Peterson preamp has roundabout 30kOhms and the 100watt version 10kOhms. The result is a volume drop when the pedal is engaged.

To avoid this, built a buffer for the accessory return or try an active circuit Wah like the good-sounding George Dennis GD30 Wah.
