To all you Doors fans out there, it is a sad day with the passing of Ray Manzarek.  Today he broke on through to the other side, and his legendary contribution to music will always be remembered.

I just learned of this recently. Sad news, but at least his family was there to be with him in his last few moments.

I had the pleasure of seeing him play with Roy Rogers a couple years back, as well as talking over hotel waffles the next morning with him. He is a great musician, but he is also a great man. He will be missed.

Ben
Thanks again for getting that interview with him. It was probably the best moment of the entire documentary.
Regards,

I just found out...I am stunned. I had the pleasure of tuning a Yamaha grand in a club for him, and got to hang out with him for a while, then I saw him with Robbie  a couple of years ago.

Ray ' taught me how to play' the organ. I told him that, and he was confused at first. You see,I  grew up with a Hammond and an older brother that was into The Doors.....

I acquired my G101 about 2 weeks after meeting him. Too bad it wasn't before so I could have told  him about it.

Thank you Ray for making me fall in love with music and for giving us your own.

Ray took us places with his keyboard sounds, melodies and chords that is hard to define how and why.

If you listen today to Ray and Robby at Daryl's house, you can hear the "Doors" sound clearly. An unusual ability to retain the identity of their sound. Makes one appreciate the musicians that made up The Doors all the more.

Thank you for the light, Ray!

Electric key: Ray and Robby were on Daryl's House?  I just went to the website and looked at all archived episode titles and did not see them listed. I would love to see that episode.  Where did you see this?

Sad News.He was a very  individual and as a consequence influential keyboard player. who was a pioneer of rock keyboard playing which had a jazz influence Echoes of his style even appear in John Lord solos and other rock practitioners. Who can possibly forget the amazing interplay between guitar and his  electric piano work in Riders on the Storm or the strident playing  in Love her madly.
