I am going crazy trying to get an amp for my Rhodes.  I don't want to spend more than $250, so I have been checking out used amps.
The problem is that some people tell me to get a keyboard amp, some say a guitar amp will be fine, and some say I should get a bass amp.
Does it matter if I get a keyboard amp?  Or could I just go with a guitar or bass one.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Honestly, they all work well.  It depends on the sound that you like.  For example, I would get something that has reverb on it because the Rhodes sounds great with a little reverb.  Which would be a guitar amp.  But if you want a clean sound with no effects then go for a keyboard amp like a Roland Jazz chorus or a Roland KC 350.  I've never used a bass amp for my Rhodes but they do work well for some people.  I would guess that they don't make the high end of the piano play very clean but that's just a guess.
I love the Rhodes....and playing some Funk.

They don't all work well: some amps can strip all the life from a rhodes. If on a gig you've ever been forced to run into a cheap PA with no preamp you will know about this.

There is an argument about guitar amps restricting the frequency spectrum of the rhodes, but they do give a more colour. The Roland KC amps really need a preamp before you go in as they can sound quite lifeless otherwise. Maybe look for a cheap aftermarket preamp like an old Rhodie and then a second hand roland KC amp or something of similar quality. Or just try lots of gear, use your ears and get whatever sounds the best.

Well of course your not going to buy the cheapest crapyest amp out there!  Of course he's going to use his ears!  That was not his question.  He asked what amp to use so I gave him a couple of suggestions that would work well.

You need to find an amp that has a reputation for good sound and go with it.  If you don't want to do that then play everything you come by and see what you like.  I hope you find something to your likeing.
